They are kind of one in the same, breh.

I understand what you're saying but there really wasn't a break in the nexus connecting slavery pre-emancipation and indentured servitude, lack of rights and "slavery by another name" being over charged crimes and labor sentences.

This is a very good read that expounds on the topic of how slavery still existed, in principle and ideology, after emancipation. .

Thanks for sharing but you misunderstood what I said and I am not understand what you are saying. Never said that slavery went away. Also what I said ties into the convict lease system and the current Prison Industrial Complex. That book or the term slavery omits present day laws and policies that disenfranchises and kill people of color, even the Johnny come lately blacks who came after the Civil Rights Movement. If I asked Sanders that question, his answer may be different as it covers predatory
lending, red lining, mandatory minimums for drug charges, organ harvesting, medical experimentations etc which is happening as we speak.

@uggymoe Understood,

What I'm saying is, his answer may be different. He may say the predatory lending deals more with discrimination of low socioeconomic communities, not just Black and reparations for that would encompass all low socioeconomic communities.

I am of the school of thought that compensation for slavery & post emancipation racism is necessary, albeit not in the form of a check. I think both issues are one int he same and a severance of the two allows ignoramus' and racists the ammunition to say "the effects of slavery are non existent. The issues of post-emancipation slavery come from a different place."

I actually think we agree, just different perspectives

nikka I don't think you understand the continent of Africa or African countries at all.

Blacks born in a America are a completely different entity all together from Africans...........

People in China give a fukk about
american born Chinese and so Italians. Africans ain't cut throat people to African Americans as white media wants you to believe.

How come these Nation of Islam dudes run for president??
Because the President has the least power when it comes to helping one race of people. We need more blacks in politics, but not at that level. They need to run for local offices to be effective.

We're not getting reparations unless we start snatching rich white folks and politicians off the streets and leaving their bodies swinging from trees. Period. They know that we aint gonna do shyt if we don't get them, so no reason to give it to us.

Coates is being paid off :francis:

Did you read the article? Because his point is pretty clear and it is a valid one. Bernie Sanders proclaims himself as a radical candidate whose entire candidacy is built around the idea that he is somehow going to get a grip of leftist legislation pushed through Congress yet on the subject of reparations and only this subject is where Sanders falls back on the argument that a proposed bill is too divisive and unlikely to ever get passed.
Nothing Sanders is running on has a shot of getting passed in this country at least not in the next 8 years in which he would be president. So why is reparations the one fight that Bernie has no interest in taking on? I think that is a question worth asking and feel that for a guy like Coates, to whom reparations is his issue much like the economy is Bernie's, Bernie's answer aren't cutting it so he is using his platform to speak out.
Why that automatically means he is being paid off or is supporting Hillary is ridiculous and just illustrates the overly sensitive and juvenile mindset of too many of Bernie's supporters.
