I've been to Best Buy in the past 2 years then any other time because of GCU. It's a shame, it was too good to be true, even if they doubled the price of a membership, it would still be a good deal

Starkset...
I was thinking about getting this too... then I realized I don't really buy day 1 games much anymore.

Will not be surprised if amazon drops the 20% preorders.... they already nerfed it last year

Doesn’t have to be day 1 just new

Ok so you can still get it in store. That was a close call...:whew:

Pretty sure it was $120 when it started, then they dropped it to $60 then $30.

Not surprised, tbh it lasted longer than I thought it ever would. It was an attempt to initially get people in the doors, but as with all other forms of media it's all going digital and my guess is that the losses no longer made sense for BBY.

Gamers have been the most stubborn to adapt, but it's finally changing @newarkhiphop

shut up

fukkIN STUPID! I know that shyt brought them a lot of business. For the last year and a half I've only bought my games from best buy. They're gonna lose a lot of business bc of this. Maybe this has to do with their new partneship with Amazon? I know that's only for TVs but you never know. Maybe they're going to do more business with other product lines like videogames
GCU has a MyBestBuy membership attached to it. They have the direct numbers of what all the members were purchasing. It was supposed to be a way to get people in the door and shop with them. In all likelihood it was probably flat out just losing them money. The profit margins on games were already pretty tight. They were selling games on this program either at cost or some people who used to work there said at a loss to get you in the door.

If all you mostly bought from them was games you weren't a profitable customer for them. I bet there were far more people only really buying games and not much else from them than people buying a lot of other things frequently.

Years ago I got in on the free GCU w/ phone purchase deal and I stacked about 3 memberships together. Was back in 2014 and I was good till 2020. I honestly thought by then the program would be killed. I was right but if I would have went out and bought more memberships I could likely have gotten longer out of it. I can't complain 6 years for $45 wasn't a bad deal.

I really do hate this world of everything digital. Nothing emotionally beats shopping for something physical man. Grasping some shyt with your own paws
I don't like all digital either but games are pretty much all digital now. You buy the physical game and it needs server updates to properly function day one. Some games need a 2+GB patch and are missing whole features.

All digital is garbage on consoles because in the future they'll just take the console purchase and download servers and shut them down. 15 years from now you might have to repurchase a classic PS4 game because whatever console out then might not play it and your old console servers could be down.

All digital works on PC but not a console.
