fukkIN STUPID! I know that shyt brought them a lot of business. For the last year and a half I've only bought my games from best buy. They're gonna lose a lot of business bc of this. Maybe this has to do with their new partneship with Amazon? I know that's only for TVs but you never know. Maybe they're going to do more business with other product lines like videogames

Its not about just bringing in business, it's about bringing in business that buys things that they actually make a profit on. There is no way they are making a profit on 48 dollar games, they were banking on you buying something else from there, which wasn't happening.

I knew this wouldn't last long because Circuit City was real aggressive with gaming deals before they went under. Gamers are just going to go for the best deal period and don't show retailer loyalty which is what these companies are mistakenly banking on.

The gaming market is quickly becoming what I predicted 5 years ago

We are going to see more great games with story lines disappear

While free games like fortnite with a lot of buy in option and less features will reign

Can't blame the industry, I choice not to buy games at full price
Where’s my famous thread at?

So is there confirmation that you can still reup in store? Cause I'll go right the fukk now.

If not, then I really don't have a reason to go to best buy anymore. Like at all.

Pretty sure it was $120 when it started, then they dropped it to $60 then $30.
When it was $120 for 2 years hardly anybody had it. When it was priced higher it only encouraged people who would take advantage of it to buy it. The break even point was 10 games in 2 years for the $120 membership. At $30 it was a much better impulse buy for casual shoppers who were supposed to shift their shopping more to Best Buy. At $30 after the second game you were in the bonus for value.

I'm betting the problem is they had an excessive amount of members in the program that only used Best Buy for games. Even buyers like me that shifted more of our buying to them I'd easily buy 20 games a year at Best Buy so by the time the profits from my other purchases were factored into the losses my game purchases were costing them it might not have been worth it. If I'm buying 20 games and they'ye losing $12 a pop on them that's $240. If they were selling them under cost at a loss that's easily over $300 it was costing them to get my business and I was buying shyt like cell phones and manufacturer set priced TVs from them.

the fact is there isnt much profit on games at retail to begin with. this may have worked as a loss lead for a minute but i imagine it became too central to their business and turned to just loss loss loss
this change is going to need other changes as well

I used to do security at a Best Buy in the city, they cut movies, cd's and games a few years back, I remember when they cut the movies and music section, they had totes upon totes of movies and cd's to go back to the warehouse, physical copies of media is going the way of the dinosaurs. And on the low, Best Buy as a company isn't looking too good, I don't see them being in business very long

Amazon's discount is at 10% here in Canada from the 20% they offered.

I'm not paying $80 - $90 in this reality for a game. Might be time to wrap it up.
