Best I ever witnessed was a friend of mine... we were going on a road trip to visit a friend at University when we were about 18/19.. approx 10hr drive. I'd got the Friday/Monday booked off work so we could make it a long weekend, he decided at the last minute to tag along and had to call in sick.
So we're sat in a McDonalds Drive Thru eating breakfast and he says "What shall I tell my boss?"
Few months before I'd had an accident snowboarding and bruised by tailbone (coccyx) - I say, that's an easy no-proof few days off work, just say you were up at the dry slope last night, had a fall and you're gonna be laid up for the weekend.
So dude calls his boss:
"I'm not going to make it in today... bruised my cervix"

If your job is physical say you have nerve pain in your back. Go to urgent care and get treatment and a note. Usually takes less than 2hrs in and out. Depending on your job they may put you on light duty so be careful.

When I was like 18 though I had got a hotel room for me and my girl and forgot I had to work the next morning. I called these folks in the morning and said I was in a car accident and while I was ok my friend broke his arm or leg (cant remember now) and I was going to the hospital with him. For months after the old ladies at the employee desk would randomly ask me how my friend was doing. Felt like a trash human being
