I think Muddy Waters is his best album. He found his style that he still uses to this day on that album. Plus the production has aged a hell of a lot better. The track sequencing and placement of the skits was flawless and it went by fast for an album with 22 tracks and few guest appearances. Whatever Man and Pick It Up are some of his classic songs that would have you lose your mind if you saw him live (I lost mine)

YES on the album cohesion this was a step up from what was already some very good cohesive projects with Whut and Dare. This is definitely Redman at his best with regards to a well rounded combo of cohesion, rapping, accessible production but not all the way like Doc's Da Name. Just a perfect blend.

Can we just appreciate Redman's verse on this:whoo:

Who the fukk I be I, you cannot see I
Flabbergasted, blasted, my Magnum P.I
Oops I lie, I got a cannon bout the size of Grand Canyon
I'm prime time, giving MC's Knots Landing
Duck, heavens to fukkin Mergatroid
I drop noise that employs the unbelievable
Recline like receding hairline, crime speaks fine
With a nine pull line blind keep mines up my sleeve until
You start to quiver, metabolism splits rivers
I rock so many broads I leave your entourage tender
Like bartenders mix liquor
I serve you over the rocks, I feed you to my flock, now time to click triggers
Manslaughter in alphabetical order for four quarters
Raw water turn sons to grandaughters
Ah ha ha ha ha! I bring trouble where, you sleep
So I double dare to bust you in your bubble bear, coat
Antidotes cause gunsmoke in Tokyo
MC's dosey doe your mics up in this rodeo
My star roast em up by the thousands, millions, quadrillions
Shuttin down national state buildings with high ceilings
Funk Doc to the spot freeze
Creepin on MC's like Vietnamese in army fatigues
Def Squad representer
Hit yo' ass up from the bottom when you enter

How the hell is Muddy Waters not elite?

Pick it Up....Whateva Man
:francis:

Whut? is better but not by much

Those first three solos are top tier
I don't think its one of the 5 best albums from 96 :yeshrug:
That's what I mean by elite. I'm not saying its wack. Its a great album.
Pick it Up and Whatever Man would be the standouts from the album...but they aren't in the same league as Time for Some Action, Tonights teh Night, How High and Can't Wait

I disagree about the production. :yeshrug:
Yeah you do

Stop lying to yourself:ufdup:

The 2nd verse though

Hah.. yo, suck my dikk out of animosity
The velocity will fly that head and freeze yo' camps like pottery
To give lobotomies to all you rap colonies
And shut your million dollar investment, to economy
And possibly might be the one in black leather
Name tag sayin "Caution when wet by the track wetter"
The hash spreader, I love the grimy shyt
Even my girl did grimy shyt to me and I went back with her
Three years for carrying a loaded handgun
But it's forever when a nikka [chik-chik BLAAAOW] and he lands one
To your cranium
That red dot on your forehead it's not cause you Arabian
(Yo watch you say to him!)
You caught up in a tight situation
I should start erasin your whole organization for makin
Wack tunes while my whole platoon rock the basement
You couldn't come close if I gave you my booking agent
Or producer, royalty points twelve shot loaded Luger
Even a crowd to get you souped up - you're still wack
I peel caps, on the regular
Destroy MC's et cetera, creep like The Predator
fukk you, your label moms and yo' editor
Give you two to the jugular, blood be spreadin
All on my shirt, the king of the flirt, shyttin
bytches hit me off more than New Edition

(Tweet-tweet-tweet-tweet, tweet-tweet-tweet-tweet)
I make them pigs heart skip a beat from the steel physique
So Iron Lung (one me gun done)
Get on the mic and break em off a sumthin sumthin

those singles you named with the exception of How High didn't necessarily chart higher than the singles off Muddy Waters so I don't know how you qualify them being superior or not. I think the Muddy Waters songs are just as good or thereabouts.

As for the production, yes it was grimy but it was a perfect balance imo. I mean first off it went away from the funk sound of the first two albums, and it was less grimy than the distorted funk used on the second album. It had a more refined and clean sound. Some songs aren't that grimy.

And to not be top 5 of 1996 (which it is) just speaks to how great 1996 was and how many top tier albums were released that year.

Blow Your Mind and Time for some action were number one rap singles though :wow:
Don't look at hot 100 for early 90s hip hop
