TES was shyt. Average as hell and a step down from MMLP. I vividly remember the first time I listened to it. White America, then all downhill.

I also remember seeing the sales numbers jump by damn near a million each month and listening to it repeatedly like "am I mission something, or.....?"

But Em owned the shyt out of that year.

And lyrically? despite how I felt about the eminem show.... I can't take shyt from him.

So despite him being white (:francis:) he got my vote for 2002.

Ft. Stewart, Ga
Verse of the year:

My songs can make you cry, take you by surprise
At the same time, can make you dry your eyes
With the same rhyme
See, what you're seeing is a genius at work
Which to me isn't work
So it's easy to misinterpret it at first
‘Cause when I speak, it's tongue-in-cheek
I'd yank my fukkin' teeth
Before I'd ever bite my tongue, I'd slice my gums
Get struck by fukkin' lightning twice at once
And die and come back as Vanilla Ice's son
And walk around the rest of my life spit on
And kicked and hit with shyt every time I sung
Like R. Kelly as soon as "Bump and Grind" comes on
More pain inside of my brain than the eyes of a little girl
Inside of a plane, aimed at the World Trade
Standing on Ronnie's grave, screaming at the sky
'Til clouds gather; it's Clyde Mathers and Bonnie Jade
And that's pretty much the gist of it
The parents are pissed, but the kids love it
9 millimeter heaters stashed in 2-seaters with meat cleavers
I don't blame you, I wouldn't let Hailie listen to me neither

:mjcry:

Mine is

I got that confident soul, for those locked in a hole
Inhuman, living hostile opposed
To living on the streets, proper from my top to my toes
Aeropostale my clothes, Vernon nikkas in suburbans with liquor
Preposterous foes, frantically foul nikkas
See nikkas in blast, there goes a loud difference
Coke sniffing, tapping 13 year old chickens
You can't be a kingpin when you snitching
Regardless, we still make you a target
We shoot you and chill, chrome objects
Hit you in your projects, its street anomics
This rhyme is edited, credited through ebonics
Miserable cats, hunger painting
Get off your ass, stop complaining
My crew be in Montego Bay margariting
While you home, waiting your arraignment
This thug life you claimed it, I make millions from entertainment
Now back in the hood, certain cats they wanna kill me
They ice grill me, but on the low, nikkas feel me
You gotta love it, you gotta love it

@SunZoo Soldier goes hard as well

Third verse is probably my favorite from him and sums up his whole career in poetic manner.

My lyrical content contains subject matter
That sucks up all these fukked up young kids
At an alarming rate; common denominate
Add it up and you'll see just why I dominate

I try to stimulate but kids emulate,
And mimmick every move you make - "Slim, you great!"
But wait, can't you see I'm only here to entertain?
I gotta be the one to go against the grain
Cause man, I see it, feel it, live it, but it's inhumane
For me to see you be influenced but pretend you ain't
But they don't understand that I've been through pain
If you get to know me I could be a friend you gain
But you can't just stand there and try to judge
It hurts but you're jealousy probably tears you up inside as much
And it's such a pleasure, every button that I touch
I treasure every glutton that I punish in my lust

You can question his beat selection but never his lyrics. Nas has never lost a step lyrically.

Step down how?

cause I didn't like it.

Didn't like the choice of beats, and was still wanting the cartoony drug fueled violence of Slim Shady LP/Marshall Mathers LP/D12.

It's all personal preference. Lyrically, he was still sharp.... it just felt like TES was artificially made. Safe and defanged, but made to be "scary".

The song I posted, though, is one of my favorite Em songs.

You're right in your valuation, only I see it as Eminem's maturity kicking in and moving away from those personas or character developments on albums prior.

But yeah it's your opinion so respect nonetheless.

And the thing is you can't do either on The Lost Tapes

The production is flawless on it :banderas:

I wouldn't go as far as 'flawless' but definitely one of his better efforts and a great listen as a project. Maybe his 3rd best for me idk.
