I beg to differ, and again not so much lyrical quality or amazing mic skills, but because his albums always hit the mark with regards to critical acclaim. Now, replay value should come into question and Kendrick's material is often found lacking in that regard. I still think he would be right up there though.

Do you think any "new school" MCs would thrive in the golden age?

Lupe maybe cyhi

Kendrick could eat in the 90’s and 2000’s. He just wouldn’t be with the top dogs :yeshrug:

Vince Staples, Cyhi, Gibbs, Schoolboy Q could all thrive in previous eras just as well as him.

DAMN is good, it isn’t some outstanding shyt. By far has the greatest amount of subpar cuts on a K Dot album. Because of his consistency and willingness to evolve his sound by putting out cohesive albums we see folks put Kendrick on a level that his actual skills and music don’t quite belong yet.

But he’s a superstar in the “mumble rap” era that stays true to the traditional hip hop feel and is always consistent so I understand it. But nikkas talking top 5 or 10 all-time... he isn’t that nice. :whoa:

nikkas on here gave him a MVP for a year he shouldn’t have even got in 2011.

Idk man I guess we'll never find out without a time chamber whether Kendrick would thrive or not. I think some rappers you listed could hang talent-wise...the album quality comes into question though. I'm a huge Vince fan but he's released poor material since Summertime 06 imo.

Anyway, DAMN is not world-changing by any means. But it's another great album, and Kendrick has yet to have mishaps in his discog that some of the all-time greats like Cube, Nas, Jay etc. have. So that's a plus for him.

Too early to give him a top 5. Top 10? Ehhh maybe an outside case but he isn't in my top 10 or close to it yet.

Yes, I agree 2011 was undeserved. But to have at least two to your name that are deserved (2012 and 2015) is impressive, even if it is in the weakest decade of hip-hop.

Yeah I get that. The thing is, he lacks the highs that make them all-time greats.

From straight up memorable bars, to guest features, to albums. He’s far off.

Just curious, don't you feel the urge to do 2016 and make the series complete?:jbhmm:
Anyway It was great. I followed it closely back in 2016 but couldn't vote because the registration was closed.:mjcry:
