This is it! The final thread of this series. The top 2 await us...

2. JAY-Z
1999_o0c3a6.jpg

Credentials:
MVP: 2001
2nd: 1997, 1998, 2003
3rd: 1996, 1999, 2000, 2009
4th: 2002, 2007, 2011

TOTAL WEIGHTED SCORE: 67.4 points

With a staggering 11 top 5 finishes, Jay-Z placed more than any other rapper on this list. It has taken him this far....but this is where it ends for HOV, who while remaining in the upper echelon of greatness and relevancy throughout a long-lasting career, he's never been seen as THE MAN. Well in terms of these threads, he was the MVP once in 2001, and while he got one over his rival that year Jay-Z is also the reason his rival has placed above him in this series. The thing that stands out with Jay is that he managed to place every single year he released between 1996-2003, which was as it turns out every single year between those years. In the years where the multiplier was a serious influence on results, Jay-Z couldn't crack a top 2 finish, and that could be a reason why he didn't reach the summit.

1. NAS
1994_o0c31v.jpg

Credentials:
MVP: 1994, 2002
2nd: 1996, 2001, 2008, 2012
3rd: 2010
4th: 2006
5th: 1999

TOTAL WEIGHTED SCORE: 75.1 points

The incredible Nasir Jones is the overall MVP of this entire series. 93 rappers finished with at least one MVP poll vote throughout the course of this series, and when the dust settled, Nas emerged the victor in what turned out to be pretty convincing fashion. The fact that he finished above Jay-Z no less might be all the more satisfying, and as I alluded to above, Nas has Jay to thank for this. After dwindling in 1999 as reflected by a 5th place finish, Nas' Stillmatic at the end of 2001 revived his career and while he lost out to Jay that year, it would fuel the fire for a critical and ultimately title deciding MVP win in the following year with the releases of God's Son and The Lost Tapes. Say what you want about Nas' albums, or his ear for beats...but he is an MC's MC....carved out of gold from a long line of heir-abundant lyricists such as Rakim and Kool G Rap...and he's overtaken them all. He foreshadowed this finish on the Message, where he proudly declared "there's one life, one love so there can only be one king". As of today, Nas is that king.
