Hammer went diamond. What's your point?
What's your point? You said everything Missy touches turns to shyt. More like everything she touches turns to platinum.

Missy has had sustained success over several years and several projects. She's not a flash in the pan and she's highly respected. Hammer went multi-platinum twice then quickly became considered an embarrassment to the genre and culture. That's a silly comparison.

Sustained success with who though?
You're gonna tell me that her sales weren't coming predominantly from women, casuals, outright pop fans and gays?

Hammer was an embarrassment to the genre and culture almost immediately. It wasn't like he had Hip hop cred during Hammer Don't Hurt them and Too Legit.

Missy was never really considered hip hop like that. For a number of reasons. So why are you even comparing her to a rapper in the first place?

Missy is a talented and respected artist with sustained longevity. Hammer wasn't (outside of dancing). That's why it's dumb to try and equate their commercial success. I don't know how to say it any clearer.

And on what fukking planet is Missy not hip-hop and not a rapper? :dahell:

You didn't respond to what I wrote though. Who is buying Missy's records? Women, casuals, outright pop fans and gays. Those are her demographics. That's why I brought up Hammer in the first place. Sales don't matter. To the fans. I hope Missy had a good deal and got paid off all those sales though :lolbron:
We know Hammer got paid. We know it didn't end well for him either :mjcry:
Missy is hip hop and a rapper b/c we let pretty much everyone in. 95 South is hip hop too :yeshrug:
Missy was always on that "pop" "alternative" (I'm using alternative in a broad sense here) wave. She was never a meat and potatoes hip hop artist :yeshrug:

No. I liked all her singles though.
I saw the post before you edited it breh
You was riding around with your brehs banging Missy in the whip :lupe:
Not that there's anything wrong with that :troll:
Seriously though...what do you think the correlation between people who purchased OBFCL and Supa Dupa Fly is? I'd be shocked if it was more than 10%

I don't have a survey of the demographics of the people who bought her albums and I don't see how that's relevant. The point is she has artistic credibility and a sustained fanbase unlike Hammer, and I said that in response to you basically dismissing her as trash.

That being said, you don't go platinum 5 consecutive times with hit after hit on urban radio and BET without a hip-hop audience buying your music. You're hating and reaching.

:francis:
You brought sales into this. So if all those sales came from white preteens in Idaho that's irrelevant to this discussion? :usure:
The point is she has artistic credibility
Not core hip hop credibility though. She definitely has her artistic bonafides for her writing and for her R&B material. She stretched hip hop into a pop direction as well.

Women breh. Women. That's the best demographic she's got :yeshrug:
For the purpose of this discussion at least.
