You're crazy out of touch for saying that. There is no way you could have been a hip hop fan in the 90s or 2000s and not have known who 40 was.
Yeah people definitely knew who he was. If you watched Rap City and Yo! with any regularity, you probably saw his videos. But I doubt he got much play outside of the west coast. I never knew one person who liked him or bought one of his albums growing up.

Yep. He was definitely a regional artist in the 90s, but back then, like them or not, if you were really a fan, you knew all the top regional artists if they were signed to majors.

CA was definitely his biggest market. KC is supposed to be a huge Bay market. I think he did well in the South as well. I say that because sick wid it put out that southwest riders compilation and 40 wouldn't have done that if there wasn't a market for it. He owned his label and I'm sure he knew where he was selling.

What about the record with Fabolous? And then the two big singles in 06? Nobody around your way was bumping that post regional ism? Plus he was on that single with Little Jon and everybody in the 90s heard him on AEOM.

Missy is one of the most innovative characters in Hip Hop , from her collaborations with Tim which still sound modern to this day despite being produced almost 20 years ago , to writing some of the biggest R&B records in the past 20 years ... the reason cats in t his thread is saying otherwise is because their perception on Hip Hop is one dimensional and think Hip Hop is just rhyming the biggest word you can find in the thesaurus even if it's void of rhythm which basically describes the vast majority of "cac real hip hop heads"

Why can't westcoast heads understand that most people don't fukk with or know E40. Truth be told if you like rap and care for diversity in your music you heard of E40 but you probably never bumped him. He has a distinct style that can be best described as an acquired taste. He has never had a song that was big enough to have appeal all over the US for people to actually know who he is. He was only big on the Westcoast and as a result he been able to have a career last this long.

I don't have a survey of the demographics of the people who bought her albums and I don't see how that's relevant. The point is she has artistic credibility and a sustained fanbase unlike Hammer, and I said that in response to you basically dismissing her as trash.

That being said, you don't go platinum 5 consecutive times with hit after hit on urban radio and BET without a hip-hop audience buying your music. You're hating and reaching.

Why couldn't you go platinum 5 times without a hiphop audience buying your shyt? And platinum?thats all she was sellin was platinum:dahell:?Lets see,s as far as this sustained success talk,Missy got her first platinum plaq in 1997 and her last in 2003?Hammer got his first in double platinum album in 88 and his last platinum album and his last in 94....What the hell has this wack bytch done in hiphop that Hammer didn't do again:childplease:?Other than having not a tenth of the success,a tenth of the respect,a tenth of the awe after people witness Hammers stage show and was passing out:dead:?Respect of James Brown, had Michael Jackson with the shook posture:lupe:....What doors did she open for hiphop?what impact did she have? Rappers didn't even bother hating on her because for one she wasn't more successful than most of the top stars:mjlol:?And for two she wasn't seen as rap by anybody respectable in the first place:scust:....shes a glorified ringtone rapper, she had hits but I've never seen anybody actually rant and rave about how good any of her non singles was.

Now on the flip 40 got his first platinum plaque in 95,and his last gold album in 2008....continues to give you classic hits as well as be featured on other artist hit records as well as be the inspiration behind others, from Jcole to Beyonce:sas1:,....mind you he did all this without making crossover pop hits or being known outside of mostly rap fans, and according to you not being known to anyone outside of the bay....meanwhile Missy had huge crossover hits yet was only getting platinum sales breh? That goes to show you how absolutely horrible she was?there was no country for Missy Elliot, rnb fans aint wanna hear that bytch, cacs aint really want to hear that wack bullshyt, and hiphop fans definiltey aint wanna hear that nonsense, outside of you and Sirbiiatch who was chompin at the bit for new Missy of course:sas1:...Alotta wack hiphop was selling during that period too is what make it so embarrassing and shocking...nobody wanted to hear that wack shyt mane, and it wasn't a matter of not hearing it like with 40,we were all absolutely forced to hear her wack records:snoop:....and almost unanimously we told that wack bytch to the garbage in the same hefty bag she rolled in on....I rest my case.
