Why couldn't you go platinum 5 times without a hiphop audience buying your shyt? And platinum?thats all she was sellin was platinum:dahell:?Lets see,s as far as this sustained success talk,Missy got her first platinum plaq in 1997 and her last in 2003?Hammer got his first in double platinum album in 88 and his last platinum album and his last in 94....What the hell has this wack bytch done in hiphop that Hammer didn't do again:childplease:?Other than having not a tenth of the success,a tenth of the respect,a tenth of the awe after people witness Hammers stage show and was passing out:dead:?Respect of James Brown, had Michael Jackson with the shook posture:lupe:....What doors did she open for hiphop?what impact did she have? Rappers didn't even bother hating on her because for one she wasn't more successful than most of the top stars:mjlol:?And for two she wasn't seen as rap by anybody respectable in the first place:scust:....shes a glorified ringtone rapper, she had hits but I've never seen anybody actually rant and rave about how good any of her non singles was.

Now on the flip 40 got his first platinum plaque in 95,and his last gold album in 2008....continues to give you classic hits as well as be featured on other artist hit records as well as be the inspiration behind others, from Jcole to Beyonce:sas1:,....mind you he did all this without making crossover pop hits or being known outside of mostly rap fans, and according to you not being known to anyone outside of the bay....meanwhile Missy had huge crossover hits yet was only getting platinum sales breh? That goes to show you how absolutely horrible she was?there was no country for Missy Elliot, rnb fans aint wanna hear that bytch, cacs aint really want to hear that wack bullshyt, and hiphop fans definiltey aint wanna hear that nonsense, outside of you and Sirbiiatch who was chompin at the bit for new Missy of course:sas1:...Alotta wack hiphop was selling during that period too is what make it so embarrassing and shocking...nobody wanted to hear that wack shyt mane, and it wasn't a matter of not hearing it like with 40,we were all absolutely forced to hear her wack records:snoop:....and almost unanimously we told that wack bytch to the garbage in the same hefty bag she rolled in on....I rest my case.

It is actually is, more than you think. E-40 is really a non factor in hiphop
That alone would make you a casual fan.
He's not a non factor. He's regional. But if you're a core hip hop fan you are aware of the top regional rappers whether you like them or not.

People know who he is, but that's pretty much where it stops. I can't name one song by him other than Sprinkle Me and I think that's the same for most hip-hop heads.
That's what I'm saying though. I don't know about Sprinkle Me being his biggest song, maybe it was. But like him or not, how could you call yourself a hip hop fan and not know who he is?

Disagree, especially more new age people may only know of him because of Big Sean. It's not hard to imagine a hiphop fan that doesn't know E40 especially now a days. I don' think that makes anyone a casual, just explains how irrelevant E40 kinda is.

Missy has a double platinum album. She was consistently going platinum over a span of 8 years with two year gaps in between some of those albums. What that says is she had longevity and people who were invested enough in to cop her albums. She wasn't some flash in the pan artist who came and went. You can't put her in a category of ringtone rappers who had two hits at most and disappeared.

What Missy has done that Hammer didn't do is earn respect. Hammer spent most of his career addressing detractors. Missy spent most of hers with respect from her peers. Missy was never supposed to even be a rapper. Puffy convinced her because he thought she had something unique. You had MC Lyte putting her on a song before Missy even had a solo hit. She's done songs with Nas (including writing Aaliyah's hook on "You Won't See Me Tonight"), Q Tip, Slick Rick, and Jay Z to name a few. Snoop's 213 got production from her.

What doors did Missy open in Hip Hop? You could start with the videos. Then you could go to her giving artists like Drake a lane (singing and rapping over trippy production to). You still have artists like J. Cole and Drake sampling her songs.

Even mentioning Beyonce is funny because Beyonce's first feature as a solo artist was on Missy's second album.
