Better player: Kevin Durant vs Magic Johnson

Magic Johnson is a top 5 player of all time, a 6’9 point guard who could dominate a game without scoring. He lead the league in assists 4 times and lead the league in steals twice. People forget he had to retire young, he was only 32 when he retired and had just lead the Lakers to the finals the previous season. He still 5th all time in assist and probably would be the all time leader in assist if he didn’t retire early.

The thing I give that KD is better at is scoring and Magic was no slouch he average 19 points over his career

The fact you think he has the easiest matchup (when OKC has been switching and trapping all series - he isn't just guarding ONE player) speaks volumes.

He's been shadowing Curry and Klay, contesting and altering shots at the rim or on the perimeter, anchoring the paint when he plays at the 5, swarming ball-handlers, switching on ANY player and remaining effective - containing the ball-handler or the roll man, getting back in transition and stopping shots in the first third of the shot clock etc etc. He's been doing it all. He's a large reason why the Warriors' offense has been inconsistent throughout the series.

He held opponents to 35% shooting at the rim in the playoffs (to put in perspective DeAndre held opponents to 37% on a similar amount of shots defended ATR)

Do you know that Durant is one of the best defenders in the league today, and has been for at least 2-3 seasons? Do you even know that Durant has greater impact on the offensive end, simply because he's on another level as a scorer? Do you even know Magic benefitted from playing in one of the fastest-paced eras; hence the exaggeration of his box-score numbers? Do you even know that Magic played in an era with weaker offensive and defensive schemes? Do you even know that Durant is the only scorer in NBA history who's elite from every single spot on the floor?

Who's the better player?

Magic I’m not one of these people that thinks KD isn’t top 25 all time either. But to me Magic and Bird whole they weren’t the best physically played the game intellectually at the height of it. Magic to me is the best facilitator ever and Bird is top 10 in facilitating an offense creating pace and realizing how a basketball has energy and it needed to be transferred to everybody. Also Magic in 90 before injuries killed any chance against the Bulls were incredible.
