Fresh Prince, it got better as the seasons went on.
Did it really? Everybody got dumber. Will went from the cool kid that was aware of his blackness to corny silly woman chaser. Carlton went from spoon fed know it all to super nerdy dweeb. Hillary was Hillary. Uncle Phil and his pillowy mounds of mashed potatoes and tiny baby onions. Ashley was the only one that stayed true to character.

Martin characters stayed the same personality wise but grew as characters. Changed but stated funny all the way thru

After watching the original video and looking through this thread, I'm starting to realize that people are stereotyping Fresh Prince.

People are seriously treating it like it was this profound, moral sitcom meant to teach you a lesson and think about life every episode. It's like a backhanded way of complimenting it if you're into Martin more, on some "Yeah, it wasn't funny, but it taught you things" shyt.

The show didn't go out of its way to teach lessons every episode. There were definitely episodes with morals, but a lot of the episodes were just about comedy. Like the one where Bell Biv DeVoe shoots a music video in the house, or when Will was up all night trying to study for a chemistry test. Those are two of the best episodes of the show and they had nothing to do with messages or morals. They were just based in comedic fukkery.

I feel Martin was funnier, but part of what edges Fresh Prince for me is that I modeled a lotta my swag off how Will moved n operated.... the ways he tried to maneuver outta situations, the lines he used on the ladies, straight classics. The snapbacks, the starter jackets, the retro jordans, he was ahead of time with the fresh n that's who the fly kids wanted to be compared to when I was growing up, even now people throw the comparison at me cause I'm light skinned n rock the flat top.

But instead of comparing the two, I'd rather appreciate both gems :blessed: n throw the Jamie Foxx show in for HM

Fresh Prince is still a good show today. Martin feels dated, FP feels like a time capsule.
Martin aged better then Family Matters though, that show is unwatchable now.
This.

When I was a kid I would have said Martin was my favorite show over fresh prince. But I could watch fresh prince today and enjoy it just as much. I still can enjoy Martin but it does feel a bit dated.

Mainly because it became The Steve Urkel show. :scusthov:
That shyt got ultra ridiculous in the later seasons. When dude was a grown ass man still playing the dorky teen role with the same clothes it look like he could barely fit. Then the storylines even got more retarded. I remember one where they shrunk down like Honey I Shrunk the Kids. There were some other stupid ones too.

Fresh Prince of Bel air is classic & it had just enough social commentary where it was authentic, but not too preachy.

GOAT supporting cast as well.

There hasn't been a show that was unapologetically black like Martin before & there probably never will be.

If I had to choose I gotta go with Fresh prince because it had a slightly better overall run.

It was never watchable to begin with it just had the benefit of being on Friday nights with no other comp.
:hhh: nah growing up watching family matters was a part of life. I would always make time for it and turn off the TV once step by step theme song came on :scust: that was an unwatchable show.
