None of that shyt is information that people didn't already have. No major media outlet or information resource in America is allowed to be owned by foreign entities. If you needed TikTok to tell you that Israel was gonna fukk Gaza up, sorry to say, but you might have already been an idiot.

This isn't a restricting of speech. You have a litany of platforms you can say the EXACT SAME shyt on. That's like saying closing down one road in your city is creating an open air prison. This doesn't change not one speech law, nor does it prohibit any American citizen from saying any thing they want. These are head ass young people takes.

If the banning of TikTok was what pushed you over the edge...then I don't know what to tell you. Ya'll can keep caping for that garbage ass app. Good riddance, imo.
:mjlol: Numbers don’t lie. It’s the most accessible and widely used social media platform in the world. People are sharing live events and news in real time that feeds all of those news sources you are using. Not to mention the same government trying to ban it is using TikTok themselves. Joe Biden and several members of Congress have official TikTok accounts and use them regularly to communicate.

Does anyone think that the Chinese government will NOT weaponize every bit of info that they can gather from Tik Tok.. or any possible source?

If you reply, answer the above question directly first.

If you realize that China will weaponize any information they can glean, do you just think "fukc it. As long as I can see random people dance for 60 seconds at a time"?

These nikkas would use an app made by Putin breh.

This is why the FEDs may uphold this law. 75% of people under 45 get their news outside of TV/new papers.

Tictoc has the power to shape what news you see.

You can understand why the FEDs would want to ban it. If people allow themselves to be influenced by what they see on tictoc, we are damned.

the U.S doesn't have a valid argument especially when they repealed the fairness doctrine long ago. as long as the propaganda spewed by the media are done by american companies, it's ok.:childplease:

people are being "influenced" by other americans or citizens if other countries. mainstream media isn't talking about or explaining the legislation that people might be interested in knowing their politicians want to sign into law, they aren't galvanizing people into action like tiktok is. remember how mainstream media portrayed the iraq war vs how the israel-gaza war is being portrayed. tiktok shifted the overton window forcing mainstream media to discuss and show things it never would have.

same reason you won't see real images of war in the media. they'll show you the moment a rocket blasts off but will rarely show where it lands. They'll show injured victims of war in hospitals if the U.S wasn't the attacker but never actual victims of U.S bombing campaigns. They've barred images of dead soldiers in the media too. If people knew what war actually looked like, they wouldn't be voting for it.

"boots on the ground" is most duplicitous-propagandist phrase of the 21st century.

this is what they would have talked about instead had tiktok not existed..

All TikTok is a remixed version of YouTube Shorts or Facebook (Meta) Reels combined as a standalone app and a different paint job.

If it isn’t sold someone will eventually come out with a copy cat app or the void will be occupied by an already established social media platform.

No. Those apps copied tiktok lol

but they can't copy their recommendation algorithm just like companies couldn't copy googles search algorithm. google is a shadow of it's former self due to all the DMCA requests and commercial offerings they decided to push to the top instead of relevant results they presented before.

it's well documented how youtube algorithm leads people to controversial alt-right & red-pilled content virtually no matter the subject matter of the video you started off watching, tiktok doesn't seem to have that same problem.

Yup. It's actually the opposite, if anything.

People that didn't know or care about "the other side's" issues became more aware or even sympathetic. I'm talking alt right people engaging with socialist content and making response videos agreeing with certain points

There is 100% less hate and bullying in comment sections and everyone is trying to make money and community

2 years ago I'd be :flabbynsick: just like the rest of people in here

But after actually using the app, I get why it's so popular.

Reducing it to a "dancing app" is almost insulting. People learned so much on this app it's actually scary. Especially Americans. We've become acutely aware that we're the bad guys across the world. Seeing young people learn about Henry Kissinger and wanting to piss on his grave warmed my heart

in some respects tiktok is way more powerful than twitter, facebook or instagram cause it's real people until the sort of AI that makes it possible to fake your appearance in a video becomes more accessible to the masses. I've seen conservatives and right-wingers had to fallback when another real individual replied to their video sharing straight FACTS with sources to back them up. it's hard to wage a propaganda campaign when people can respond like that and usually they do within minutes or 24 hours.

they don't like the labor organizing that is happening on tiktok either.

It's such a dishonest argument. Most people, Tiktok or not, aren't really about that STEM life because it’s something that takes effort. It’s easier to talk and complain rather than be about something.

Their feeds can be nothing but STEM and they’d just delete the app.

Khan Academy been around for over a decade. Multiple YouTube STEM channels out there have videos with a grand total 1k total views. Yet Tiktok is hindering them?

The resources are all around us but cats talk like there’s nothing out there. Truth is let’s be real - a lot of folks don’t want to watch it and will tune into entertainment instead.

If people are upset at Tiktok because it's making our youth less educated, then they should ban all forms of entertainment.

What does all this conjecture, whataboutism and grand standing have to do with the Communist People's Republic of China having a committee presence within the organizational structure of TikTok?

americans have the right to receive any information they want from foriegn sources because it's been held up by the supreme court already.

i would be more perturbed if there was a 4:1 ratio of videos being served that favorably promoted israels actions.

edit:

it's obvious they trying to control the narrative on all platforms americasn have access to.

None of that makes me care about it. Also TikTok is NOT the most widely used platform on earth. Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube and IG are ALL bigger according to numbers ending in Dec 2023.
