Fukk outta here nikka wasnt nobody checkin for big l like that in 95 he was like an underground rapper.I aint no young ass kid I grew up in that era.I remember that mvp song on the radio

Big L benefited from death more than any rapper ever.Comparing him to pac and big is a joke

There's quite a few rappers better than all 3, but i won't have this conversation again. I know, i know....once you are dead, you are the GOAT :yeshrug:

Big L was better than 2Pac...but only if you're talking about the technical aspect and pure lyricism.

I like Big L, he was great, but I always felt he needed more substance to be considered one of the best ever...same goes for Big Pun.

For instance - name one deep song from Big L that is well acknowledged by the Hiphop community. He might have changed his lyrics had he stayed alive or if he got a major deal, but based on everything he did, I just don't see how one can even dare to compare the likes of Pac and Big with him.

Street stuck had a lot of substance. I think Big L was more than capable of spitting substantive lyrics. I feel like Big L was coming on to his own on his second album. I don't he would of reached commercial success like Biggie or Pac. Fed up wit the Bullshyt is another song that had substance.

Big L was the Papoose of his day. Had he lived longer, he wouldn't have achieved much more success or acclaim than Pap. He was nice to listen to and I was a fan of his and copped his music...but basically, he wasnt a guy who was going to cross-over. More of a specialist than a well rounded MC.

Papoose was the knockoff brand, less charismatic, less witty version of L...

Big L is great, but he's also the prime example of a shoulda-coulda-woulda been MC. He didn't exactly set the world on fire with the first album, even though it was dope but so were a lot of albums that year. He was respected in the years after that but never made a breakthrough... then started to get a lil' more acclaim right before he died... and was about to sign a deal that could've brought him thru and got him the attention his talent deserved. He was only 24 and still had a shot to really make an impact. But that's it.

Big L is like Len Bias is to basketball. If Bias hadn't OD'd and died, he might've been one of the greatest. He might've kicked Jordan's ass on the court. He might've led the Celtics to dominance like Jordan did the Bulls. But we can't put him with the GOATs just because he had some great games at U of MD. Same way L had a lot of underground respect, was guaranteed to kill it almost everytime he dropped a verse... but he never put it together to become one of the elite MC's of his era. He probably would've... but it didn't happen.
