But you get why I said it. Questloves Dilla PR has his constituency making wild claims like "Dilla > Premo, Dre etc"

You think that has to do with Quest working with Dilla in person? Not sure he has ever been in the lab with Premo, Dre, etc

Jealous Ones Envy was one of the best albums of 1995. I wore that album out.

It's crazy that there aren't many actual DITC producers on it...I think only Diamond on Bronx Tale....yet the album sounds totally DITC.

I think he genuinely thinks Dilla is the most talented producer ever and relates to his being a peer. Quest never had that street cred so he'll knock those that did in favor of artists that accepted him when the hard rocks didn't.

Yup... Diamond did Bronx Tale and I believe one other joint. The rest was mostly L.E.S., Premier and Domingo

And also, I think he did that for a reason... dudes like LES were makin' stuff that was clearly NY, but also reached elsewhere. Even Buckwild was doing it too around that time. Whereas Lord Finesse and Showbiz were very much strictly an underground NY sound. And Joe seemed to be trying to break thru nationally or at least establish himself as a bigger name on the East...he was goin' for where Nas, AZ, Raekwon, etc. were at the time.

Dude...I'm a big fan of Big L...he's in my top 5 rappers (That I like to listen to, not counting influence or stuff like that)...but come on...better than Pac and Big? :snoop:

Big L was talented, but he never really saw his fullest potential...he died too soon. That's why I can't place him up there with the GOATs overall. Unfortunately he never really got to live up to expectations because of his death. :to:

:pacspit: @ people underrating him though, his flow and delivery were impeccable, and he had charisma, unlike Fabolous and Banks. The only punchline rapper of the 2000s that I would really say has surpassed Big L is Cassidy.

:pachaha: you must be thinking about "Holiday Inn" Cassidy, not this one...

Cassidy matches Big L in terms of delivery, and presence/charisma, and has him beat on punchlines. I will say that his flow is weaker than Big L's though. But then again, it suits his style, and he's able to put more emphasis on delivering his punchlines with convincability.

This is the mistake people always make in regards to Big L. He wasn't just a battle/punchline rapper. L had a lot of versatility, people don't see that. I like Cassidy when it comes to flexing his rhyming skils, but L made and was going to make better albums than Cass. Banks, Papoose, Fab, etc are all carbon copies of L.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm not boxing Big L in as just a punchline rapper, but more or less comparing strengths in terms of the punchline style of rapping.

I can roll with the bolded though.

lol at cassidy suprassing big l l was spitting punchlines since 1992 when he first appeared on the yes you may remix

big l had cassidy beat in every aspect from the rhyming ability to the punchlines flow metaphors wordplay etc

nikkas make it seem like l had a short career like biggie

l was rapping since 1992 all the way to 1999

this just proves yall nikkas have no idea about what yall are talking about in regards to hip hop and most def big l.
