nah. There was a time when barely anybody in the north said "y'all" my NY cousins would crack jokes on me all the time for it. my post just illustrates how southern slang has infiltrated the mainstream and Kweli is a lightweight hypocrite because subliminally he's guilty of the influence too.

http://dialectblog.com/2011/02/15/the-remarkable-history-of-yall/

look at that map. :whoo:

First, that map is hilarious...Wikimedia? Really? What the fukk is the source data for that. The caption says "The frequency of "Y'all" usage in the United States"...what does that mean. They recording conversations or some shyt?

Secondly, the article states it's common to hear the word in New York and while it may not have been common decades ago amongst the general population, it was amongst the black population. So, for as long as Talib Kweli has been alive that word has been in his lexicon and not something he picked by visiting the south.

I made a thread but it flopped so imma just post this here:

I thought it was clear that there isn't anything any of these rappers can say or do right now that will make a bigger impact than the Kendrick verse. I'm not saying that to be on his nuts, I really mean it doesn't matter if Jesus himself came down and wrote the bars, the shock factor is gone.

Everything will be expected so it won't throw anyone off. No one expected Kendrick to come out and drop names like that which is why it blew up the way it did. :yeshrug:

That being said, what do you guys think someone like Drake or Cole can do or say, let's say, a couple of weeks or a month from now to have this big of an impact cause I can't think of anything to be honest.

All this hype kendrick created off one verse just shows how much respect and admiration he has from his peers. and imo, that alone proves he's got the crown right now. I don't think any other MC coulda turned the entire hip hop community upside down the way kendrick did. not kanye, not jay, not drake....definitely none of these other new rappers. people know there's something different about kendrick. he's built from the same cloth of the legends of the 90's. hip hop has been watered down for so long now, I think us fans forgot why we fell in love with hip hop in the first place. but kendrick came through and slapped us all in the face and reminded us all of that very fact. that creativity, that competitive edge...36 chambers, illmatic, the infamous, ready to die, the chronic....a whole nation of artists consistently trying to better eachother and prove they're the best...thats what hip hop is. so I don't think this is an over-reaction at all. I think this is just a wake up call...an appreciation for an MC who's bringin back the spirit of true hip hop. kendrick is building an unstoppable movement for himself and he did it with nothing but great fukkin music. it's remarkable to witness. as a life long hip hop fan, I couldn't have asked for a better MC to be the new face of the culture. Kendrick is sittin on the throne and reppin that crown right.

Came out of hibernation/lurking mode to write an essay on this momentous occasion…but this shyt sums it up pretty nicely. Mad ppl who are just seeing Kendrick on social media shyt and claiming it the “best” verse just cause of the hype its getting…but real talk in terms of the climate of current day hip hop this shyt is powerful and special. Jay Elec and even Sean came through with heat of their own…but K Dot legit just got the attention of the whole rap game spitting nothing but the truth…right now he is the best out and he is challenging others (BY NAME) to aspire to greatness just as he’s doing…someone made a comparison to Kendrick playing the role of the Nas after Illmatic era just killing features for the sport of it…great point

Salute the gawd K Dot

Can we talk about how the whole impact of kendricks verse was bringing competition and bars back to hip hop and yet when joell and cas shyt all over this nikka its "man stfu nobody cares about you." the fact as i see it is that nobody ACTUALLY cares about who is a good rapper hence they listen to drake wale etc and not real spitters like sean p, az, ghost etc, shyt even krit
