Guards and wings who can score but can't defend (eg Anfernee Simons, Jordan Poole, Herro, Sexton)
Role players approaching 30
Injury prone stars approaching 30 (Beal, Embiid, PG potentially fumbled this bag for players like Trae)

Karma. The middle class is responsible for max contracts. That shyt came round to bite them in the ass. The soft cap with unlimited Bird rights was the best model for everybody but cheap owners. But they allowed those same owners to use them against the stars and now stars bout to be getting $100 Ms annually and they crying.

I think the players expected the owners to accept the additional tax penalties.

Why would they be that stupid lol

Lol to be fair the Warriors spent a ton of money in luxury taxes to win and the team values and broadcast deals skyrocketed. Seems like the players underestimated that teams are now owned by groups and operate like corporations trying to minimize expenses. And some owners legit can’t afford to pay the luxury taxes.

Richard Jefferson not being smart enough to realize that he is the exact type of player who would get squeezed out the league if they removed the salary cap is hilarious. :pachaha:

The apron definitely squeezed out the middle class player. The penalties are so high it’s effectively a salary cap. I do think the players focus on either weakening it or providing some sort of exception to get players signed around it.

The players best bet is to try to push for rookie max extensions not incurring as much luxury tax.

That would make a lot of sense. A lot of money gets tied to those rookie extensions and they aren’t always good deals.

I do know something is going to give that next CBA. Every offseason we see guys taking minimums who are MLE players level players.

Unless the players are willing to hold out during a lockout, nothing major will probably change.

this, but the new CBA made the penalties outrageous.

Boston basically gutted their team.

everyone scared to go over the second apron with the ridiculous penalties doing so.

CJ McCollum and the NBAPA played themselves.
