DLC. Working on a game 60% of the way then selling the other 40% back to you 4 times in 10% increments for $10 a piece.

Day one updates. Games routinely come shipped broken that need patches the second you install it. No one even cares to put out a 100% complete project, and some never even put the rest of their game out. So flabby. So Casual
Number one reason I'm not buying a new Gen system

Nah don't let that discourage you. I don't buy DLC and I've been having a blast. The annoying part comes into play when they release a broken game for $60 and take over a year trying to fix it. Which is a rare situation.

That's not always true. Idk why people assume dlc is just withheld content.
Because it's been so in the past. The side I think people should see is that DLC 9 times out of 10 is very insignificant to the actual story / main portions of the game. The majority of the time, you can skip DLC and not even tell the difference.

If you don't know the story and would like to read about the fukkery...

A horse named Gizmondo: The inside story of the world's greatest failed console

Excerpt:
The event was hosted by Dannii Minogue and comedian Tom Green. (Will remembers Green coming onto the stage with a Gizmondo, declaring it to be indestructible and then throwing it onto the ground, where it shattered into hundreds of pieces: "He stood there looking awkward while Dannii Minogue went over to pick it up.")

Honorable mention: PSP and the UMD's along with PSPGO

DLC doesn't necessarily have to be significant or even relevant to the story. That kind of DLC is the kind of DLC people should be more annoyed about since it's basically the realization of the "Charging us for unfinished content" point people like to make up.

If Konami were to drop a chapter 3 DLC for $14.99 for MGSV and it supposedly ties up the loose ends and offers some new content that didn't make it to the original game, some people would say "Man they could've just gave us that for free!"

DLC like GTA's Ballad of Gay Tony is totally unrelated to GTA IV and yet at the same time, someone would have a hard time proving that it was just "held" back.

If a game is great and the DLC is great, why not buy it?? Games have to be finished and pressed for release most of the time so it's not always possible to fit in alternate content or w/e into a game before launch OR to simply provide it for free as that means people would have to work for free after a game's out.

Remember I was talking about the N64 era. there was no loading games on the N64 cartridges at the time. The cartridges were not that big. A port of Resident Evil 2 I think was the only game on the N64 that had anything appearing close to load times due to having to uncompress the FMV that they crammed into the cartridge.

Bear in mind that I am not saying that load times was the reason why nintendo won or lost. In my opinion the low cost of CDs meant that that third parties coud produce much more copies at a very low cost at very low risk. Cartridges were much more expensive for third parties to manufacture. I also think they had to buy them from Nintendo. This meant third parties started focusing on the playstation.

With respect to the Gamecube comment, I'm saying you wouldn't have gotten to the point where gamecube would have had to compete against the Playstation 2. If nintendo had gone CDs, Final Fantasy VII etc would have gone to Nintendo and Playstaion 1 would never have gotten much traction (certainly much less) so there may not even had been a Playstation 2 for Gmaecube to go up against..etc

I just can't agree with the idea that Nintendo fell behind or things would have been different if they would have changed the physical format their games were on. Regardless, they were still putting out the same very safe games. PS came out with violent games. Stuff that appealed to a much more mature audience. What Nintendo needed was a Sony partnership like they were going to have in the beginning before they pulled out and left Sony on their own. The format wasn't the issue. It was their leadership.

I agree with both of you fellas ...leadership of Sony certainly would have made a great difference with Nintendo ...but that leadership CERTAINLY would have realized the value of utilizing the CD format at the time. The CD at the time was the first symbol of sophisticated digital technology that was available to the masses...when you went into a store and saw PS games and then saw Nintendo games in cartridge format ...Nintendo came off prehistoric. CD's were the future and Sony knew gaming would be an ideal format to exploit that and they did it. But that all points to the leadership choices by Nintendo:francis:
