Im going to say this one last time. The narrative that Jay couldn't be who he was if BIG didn't die is stupid. In 1996 Jayz had a big club record on the Nutty Professor sdtk.

When Aint No N1gga came on everyone used to run to the dance floor. Now I do think Jayz used Biggies formula but it really wasn't BIGs formula. They both got their style from Kane.
The only thing they didn't do that Kane did was the dancing.

Jay wouldn't have become who he became as a mainstream rapper to casual listeners if BIG didn't die.

He already had a career before he died. Im sure when The Commission album would've came he would've took off.Not only would Jay have had a career so would Camron considering BIG brought him around.

Never said he wouldn’t have had a career. He just wouldn’t have been as big with the casual hip hop listeners. He filled that void left by BIG.

BIG walls king from 94- until he died the difference in the 90s and 2000s rappers took breaks in between albums. You still had Nas, 2Pac, Outkast, Snoop,Redman,Scarface. Rappers still moved physical units so Jay still could've had a run.

The public always love a fresh face as well. I also think BIG wanted to get behind the scenes in the industry. I don't think he wanted to rap forever

Jay Z wouldn’t have had the same pull in the mainstream among casuals. In addition to BIG, he still would’ve been competing against Em, DMX and then eventually 50. That 98-2001 run was critical for Jay to gain mainstream appeal and that door wouldn’t have been open like it was after BIG died. BIG was still going to be very active in the late 90s to early 2000s if he had still lived as far as promoting his album, touring, Junior Mafia, guest features, etc. BIG planned on releasing another album within the near future to either renegotiate or get out of his Bad Boy deal at the time.

First of all why are u trying to turn this thread that is paying homage to greatness and natural gift of Biggie into a Jay Z thing?

Second of all who are u to say what Biggie had planned for his career? This is a man who didn't even scratch the surface of what he could of been.

Third Jay Z couldn't fukk wit Biggie. Big's voice and cadence alone made Jay's shyt sound premature. Knock it off

Stop.

This is revisionist history.

Jay literally needed nikkaz like a rihianna song.

Jay is lucky to have known big and big l just for that era alone.
Let alone needing jaz, original flavor etc.

dude was huff from his debut. Till sauce, big and jaz gave him a sryle to run with.

originally jay was nuffin but a nyc native cool c ripoff. That was trash in the mic. Three times.
Before having to re-ramp after a third time. Which is bullshyt.
That explains why jay had to buy his way in the industry. Which is why his pr is so profound. Itbis all pr and not real skill application. As biting and secret ghost rhyme writing is jay's wheel house.

Ex.
Sauce, jaz, big l, biggie, kane, publicist

Stop.
