Actually false.

Gucci was attainable, now being affordable was the issue.

Early pioneers from Eric B and Rakim to LL Cool J or just about any rapper from the 80's made that ish popular thanks to Dapper Dan knock off or not.

By attainable I mean affordable man. What else could I mean? :dahell:

Regardless, I was an adult in 1996 (20, full time job, own crib) and nobody gave a fukk about Gucci, Versace, Coogi, and high end shyt like that. At most people were rocking Nautica, Guess, BOSS, Hilfiger, Polo, etc. And obviously Nike, adidas, etc.

Attain and afford not the same, bro.

Why not say affordable?

I was also an adult and the people who could afford it would buy it.

You are comparing street fashion to a high end fashion.

If Gucci made a lot of low end affordable pieces, people would by them.

I never said they're the same thing.

If you do not have the money to buy it, then it's not attainable.

Attainable = achievable. Don't have the money to buy it = it's not achievable.

Not really understanding splitting hairs over semantics here.

And I'm not comparing anything. Dude I quoted said Gucci was "an attainable look", when it wasn't for most rap fans in the 90's. "An attainable look" would be the brands I mentioned.

Ok.

You are saying if you dont have the bread it isnt attainable.

If we dealing in absolutes, i can dig.

We arent.

So I disagree.

People attain shyt by hook or crook, credit, trade or lay away.

Breh you gotta look at the context of the original quote. Dude said Slick Rick's trademark gear (a bunch of gold chains) wasn't attainable, but BIG's Gucci was.

If we're talking about the bolded, both are obtainable. Hell, anything is obtainable by that logic. I was simply saying the average rap fan wasn't modeling their style after Slick Rick or BIG because neither were as accessible as Polo, Nautica, Hilfiger, etc.

Because cats in the streets wasn't rocking it.

The streets dictate fashion trends in pop culture.

Gucci and the lot is a status symbol.

Oh and I agree, Slick Rick gear was that of a well paid street cat.

Only real bosses was rocking furs and gold chains, a direct cue from the dealers of the streets.

A lot of people don't know, that fur in teenage love was a old ladies who they decided to give Rick at the last minute...to covey an image.

Back then Gucci was looked as rich white people attire.

So no, in the sense of the streets nobody was trying to cop Gucci.

But the D boys was rocking the fly kicks and threads as to set the trend.

I do understand your point tho.

Coogi was huge in mid-90s..from about '94-'99. By '99 was overboard though. Versace wasn't huge, but money getters had a few items. Gucci was more women/girls with belts & bags.

Breh.

Shut yo goofy ass up.

Big didn't get fly until Puff styled him.

I said nothing to even indicate disdain in my post.

You just in your own feelings.
