Neither one of them sees the hype about Wiggins either :mjpls:
Simmons (and everyone else for that matter) soured on Wiggins as soon as the trade happened. Writers went from fapping to his summer league games to forgetting he exists, all because he got dealt to the team the press can't stand.

They had their doubts all along and have be pretty consistent with saying that Parker is more NBA ready and that Embiid would of been the consensus #1 pick if he was healthy.

They brought up the same concerns repeatedly when the Cavs took him (handles, J, competitiveness, drive, laid back personality).

They only caught a slight :krs: when LeBron came back and they thought he would learn under his wing.

But that's my point. Simmons was all giddy about Wiggins and then when the trade was announced, he all but buried his future. For someone who had the "best prospect since Bron, he really is bring treated like just another guy, even by the Wolves. The way the team hypes up Wiggins compared to how they hype up LaVine makes you think Zack was the great prospect

I think part of that is just Flip. Like the roster is one foot in and one foot out.

You've got a handful of veteran wing players that want to play and you've got really young raw talent in Lavine, Shabazz, Bennett, and Wiggins that need the playing time.

You can't be half-way sorry. You gotta let the youngings get the bulk of the minutes to grow.

Or because he went from potentially being mentored by the best player on the planet in a weak Eastern Conference, to being thrown to the wolves in the West (don't ask me how) with Shabazz Muhamad as his old head..

Flip is dying for LaVine to learn how to play basketball so he won't have to deal with Ricky or Fegan, so that push is clearly from him. That's Flip's guy (the man had TWO press conferences for crying out loud)

Aside from the fact that these overpaid wings for the most part are still here, I get the idea Flip has in terms of how he wants to sell this. He can't sell a rebuild because he'll lose everyone at that point and he also would like to have someone else coach the team in a year or two (or so he says; if they take off he ain't goin anywhere and if they lose a ton he can't give the job away)

Also, as part owner, he takes a massive L if they lose money at the rate that they do annually. Rebuilding only makes it tough for him to stay on in that capacity while they look for a local buyer.

Your explanation is what allows anyone to create any bullshyt reason and give it credibility. I can't blame anyone for that. BUT, they weren't liked even when they were good because nobody likes covering games there. It's like being asked to cover the Great Alaska Shootout is what one writer told me.

And I think that's why the media may seem to be souring on Wiggins. Those internal situations will effect his development.

I also think the worst thing for him is to be out of the spotlight.

He just wants to be liked, be comfortable, play some basketball, and be happy. He's not going to force himself to be better than everyone else. That scared me when we drafted him.
