Wake.
He kept that program from crumbling and got them one of the best QB prospects in the country last year. They should be applauding that man for leaving the program in better shape than it was. And from all the stories I read everyone knew he was an NFL guy and this was a possibility if a college program chose to hire him.

This situation completely different than a Lane Kiffin bailing on Tennessee, or Pete bailing on USC before the sanctions were coming imo.

Wasn't he preaching all that commitment crap a few years ago, here for the long haul in these troubling times.

Recruits buying into that crap and staying while he interviews for a job a year in and leaves after two.

White man feeding young black kids and their parents lies all for his benefit.

I agree kinda.

But I think the "Paterno faithful" were too much for him to handle. They probably made his life a living hell.

What I can say with some certainty is that, as perfect as Bill O’Brien was to lead Penn State’s football program at the time of his arrival, it’s now clear to me that it’s time for him to move on. The man from Massachusetts left Penn State’s football program in a much better place than where it was two years ago. His status as an outsider was exactly what the program and the place needed.

I have no problem advancing your career. But dude told players to stay and commit in the middle of a shytstorm and that they would as a "family" ride it out. Then bounced. Thats what I thought was a snake move.

Again it makes sence but the title is Obrien his a snake and played that role.

And? They also tell cats they'll be 4 year starters and then recruit a guy better than him the next year. It's the business. CFB is one of the shadiest businesses around. You're a fool if you take anyone for their word.
Players there had their out and players who went there knew the situation they were signing into. They wanted PSU that bad that they got blinded.
When a used car salesman sells you a lemon who are you made at? Them for tricking you or yourself for falling for their shyt.

Not the point. The title again is Obrien a snake. He pulled a snake move just like the used car salesman.

Now I do agree maybe they were niave but that don't mean what he did wasn't a snake move.

But I'm done cause people keep saying the same thing.

Conclusion for me

I think it was snake move.

A logical and possibly smart move but snake move.

Best analogy I could think of off the top. :yeshrug: What analogy would you give it?

That analogy isn't good cuz you're talking about paid employees...in a free market. If they can't move, at least laterally, then they're not as valuable as they think and should be thankful they even have a job (kinda like that kid with the scholarship who wouldn't have gotten one from any other school. It sucks that Bill left, but at least he's getting a free education :ehh:)

For those guys that the president recruited from other companies and convinced to stay to be a part of a remarkable turnaround, it may suck that he's leaving, but they're free to leave too. (But in the PSU case, those kids that chose PSU's scholarship over another school's scholarship are assed out). Sure, it may be harder for those employees to leave, but because they could've left at any time (say before the president quit, another company offers them a better job), they don't get much sympathy. That's corporate America :yeshrug:

So, O'Brien took a job following "God" and then was saddled with the restrictions that "God's mess" left behind. Despite their supposed interest in Penn State, the Paterno faction wanted him to fail, and still do. O'Brien did a decent job of keeping things together. He did the dirty work of cleaning up a program that was left for dead. He made it possible for someone else to come in and continue re-building. O'Brien came into a no-win situation and did the best he could.... He ended up doing what was best for business. He followed his dreams, and is now a head coach in the NFL. You can't fault the man for that.

Nobody wanted that job 2 years ago. Penn State should be happy with the results O'Brien gave them. And they're now in a position to hire a "Penn State guy" if they choose to do so, which they couldn't have done 2 years ago....

Yes it was a snake move but every college coach is 1 so I don't see a problem
