Kobe become loved because he did a great job with his post career of his curating his image and then his death happen, but during his playing time he was a very very polarizing figure that people pretend was this universally loved player when he never got nowhere near the love Lebron gets during his actual playing time.
Kobe became loved after the 5th title.

He didnt really become beloved until he tore his Achilles.

But I agree that most of his career, people didn’t like Kobe. Bill Simmons was still bitter at Kobe at the end of his career And I remember he hated on his last game.

BULLshyt, media members wanted the Lakers to amnesty that muthafukka, and then they killed the Lakers for giving Kobe that contract after the injury and then he was getting killed for how horrible his play was after the achilles and the other injury he had.

Let's stop rewriting history he was never universally loved until he retired and started curating his image.

Most great athletes are narcissists regardless of color/upbringing. We’ve all seen this. :comeon:

Considering Bron’s situation from birth to where he is now, he’s done pretty fukkin good ….nah, GREAT if we being honest

No crazy scandal, great dad himself, and does carry himself extremely well considering the weight and pressures on his shoulders. We give him shyt on here for his antics but overall Bron is legit a good dude. There’s plenty of cats who win the genetic lottery and don’t do shyt with it. Bron did and yes his mom had a lot to do with making sure she nurtured his ascension.

Doin the Decision was goofy and dumb and may have sounded good on paper but that’s really the only thing Bron did wrong to me.
Most highly successful/powerful people have some narcissistic traits...including media members. A lot if these dudes in the media are no better, many times worse, than the athletes the cover and criticize.

People are entitled to their opinion of the Decision. My biggest issue was and remains how everybody flipped after the fact and how people acted like Bron was alone. We knew for days that it was gonna be happening and people were hyped and waiting with baited breath. I don't recall hearing any criticism until after the fact. And then you had people on ESPN going on and on about it like they weren't complicit. To this day, no one (even those outside the network) has brought smoke to ESPN for airing it. Lastly, the biggest :comeon: is that Bron only became a bigger star afterwards. All that hue and cry and yet people tuned in to record numbers and propelled him even higher in the stratosphere. That'll learn a narcissist:pachaha:.

Bullshyt, I been a Kobe fan since he was in high school. Your opinion of things is your. My opinion is mine. Some wanted to amnesty his deal, but this was nowhere near the dominant discourse. That’s bullshyt.

Kobe was loved after that last ring, but became beloved when he hit those free throws following tearing his Achilles.

The post-career work was on top of it, but I saw the shift during his career.

That so strange

He sounds …… jealous

Almost in the get out way

Remember rose brother kept saying “if I had your body you know I would use it better than you”

And how dare you leave your plantation we making good money off you

Idc you are a free agent have some loyalty to a team that would trade you if you got hurt
Yeah the way a lot of them were talking at that time you could here the jealousy, and an overall tinge of "who does that uppity ****** think he is."
I had no problem with the decision, the man took control of his career and proceeded to go to 8 straight finals.
And made them all shut the fukk up

Bill used to say a lot of "insensitive" bar talk shyt, before people were as sensitive as today. Like many others in media, social media etc.

I don't know what I think about bringing back tweets, articles etc. from an era where people received and delivered things with a different frequency.

I mean, it's coli talk to say that a 16 year old fukking with a criminal and having a kid she couldn't take care of so she gave him away isn't some type of sacrifice or anything that should be celebrated :yeshrug:

But it also sounds wild coming from a rich white guy who had a relatively rich solid childhood.

Go and look at how twitter was around 08-11, that's how everyone keeps on getting hit with these "look at what xxx wrote on twitter 17 years ago".

The tolerance level was overall a lot higher on radio, twitter, media and all these things before this "viral" culture of posting what somebody said.

If it's good that people are more sensitive or not is another question

Every time I open this site and see a headline and think ‘yea we’re all in agreement there’, yall say hold my beer

Caping for bill simmons :mjtf: Absolutely disgusting work. :scust:

And my main takeaway is I must be old bc how is it not common knowledge Bill Simmons is a line toeing racist dog whistling bytch. Like how is this an exposé, people didn’t know he was on this time?!

The Decision wasn’t even dumb

He hinged his celebrity to raise money for charity announced where he was going to play professional basketball. He was a free agent and had the right to do it. He didn’t even shyt on anybody.

I say it was dumb because of the spectacle. You knew he was going because it made no sense to even have it if he was staying. And I legit felt that him and his circle convinced themselves that the charity component would soften the blow of him leaving. Gross miscalculation by them. Wasn't necessary at all. He still would've been hated on by the Cavs fans for leaving but to pretty much shyt on them by doing the Decision, it made the vitriol much worse.
