How the fukk did he get Jalen a job? Jalen was working in the media WHILE he was still playing. Stop giving him credit for that.
And he doesn't need ESPN anymore. With youtube he can get his viewers And clicks. His name can stand alone and he'll still succeed just on a smaller level.

I admire Simmons for wanting to be his own man and stand on his own 2...but business wise it is a bad look...

ESPN could outright crush him if they wanted to...

Depending on how much control they have over Grantland they could just absorb every great writer on that site into ESPN...

Bill has sort of gotten washed up and does way more of the gossip conspiracy stuff instead of real sports coverage now...

I remember he spent weeks trying to talk to Zach Lowe about Lebron juicing and Zach being like "yeah I'm not talking about that at all:whoa:"

Whenever Lowe appears on Simmons podcast their chemistry and interactions give me the same vibe as interactions between Jim Halpert and Michael Scott on The Office.
Zach Lowe is like rolling his eyes, thinking "Oh these weird questions and takes again. But he IS my boss and he probably means well, so w/e.." .. "Oh, here he goes ranting again.."
"Thats just Bill" :yeshrug:

Bill Simmons’ appearance with Dan Patrick Show where he questioned Roger Goodell’s “testicular fortitude” over Tom Brady’s upcoming suspension over DeflateGate was the final straw for ESPN in endind contract negotiations with the Grantland founder, according to report from writer James Andrew Miller.
Miller is also reporting that Simmons’ relationship with ESPN was beyond repair when the company deducted money from his paycheck a week before Christmas for his suspension last September for calling Goodell a liar.

If in the nexxt few days it turns out that Simmons was essentially let go over his criticism of Roger Goodell it would not be a good look for the network.

He pretty much came up or was involved with everything good on ESPN. 30 for 30 is by far their best TV, he has the best podcast and grantland is the best thing about the website...and like people have said he loves the NBA and pushes it hard. Yet people on here hate him cause hes corny on TV :dahell:

What? You must not have read all the Ricky Rubio is going to be the best point guard every posts he wrote every other month. Or how he goes out of his way to praise Kelly Olynyk (beyond him being a Celtics fan). There are just so many examples. Do your research.
How could he? He never wrote them. He was a Ricky skeptic.

Do your research

True but he has a following. And when he leaves so will a lot of people. ESPN is creating competition by not keeping someone that can stand on his own. When he leaves, if successful, the people he put on will most likely jump ship too. ESPN isn't going to disappear but I remember checking ESPN everyday for the news. Now I check Bleacher Report. The only time i'm on ESPN is for Grantland. I'll keep going to Grantland until he creates another platform and the rest of the talent leaves.
Breh, Simmons may wind up doing well, but you KNOW ESPN will be OK because there's only so much they can do to get you to stop watching it. He could join FS1 tomorrow and y'all will just be too busy whining about Jon Barry's takes or someone like that on ESPN. Loyal to the brand.

This will all work out for Bill. He has a big enough following to where he can create a new site and still get plenty of hits. Plus you could see the writing on the wall and that this was coming sooner than later.

I don't know how'll he'll fare outside of the 'four letter network' cause he doesn't have the voice or on camera presence imo.. but I liked that he was an NBA first kind of guy which is always good in my book. I don't know if ESPN will keep his pro- NBA mantra going when he leaves. Knowing espn they'll start up another NFL show to replace the NBA coverage:ld:
