People on twitter saying he needs espn and will disappear like sas when he went to fox are dumb as hell

Simmons brand is big enough to survive on it's own and it's a bad comparison because sas brand depends on tv so he needed espns tv audience Simmons brand doesn't need tv

What kinda agent would leave that on the table? They didn't have a clue that Grantland was going to be as big as it is now. No one did. I wander on that site more than I go to espn's main site.

espn let simmons take the risk of running a new site, but they still hosted it, and backed it, with their own brand. Grantlands growth would have been much slower if it wasnt espn backed. The mere fact that Grantland is accessible from the espn front page gave it instant credibility, traffic, and views. Also Grantland basketball hour is espn owned, so Disney gives it that time slot on ABC

He's going to call TNT because he loves those guys but I don't see it happening for a variety of reasons.

I think its a safe assumption that he is offered a huge radio deal. Clear Channel/Fox Sports Radio has a pretty stacked line-up but Bill would be a huge draw. He's probably too lazy to be cooped up like that though daily. He's definitely starting his own platform regardless...podcast isnt going anywhere.

From the Son of Sam message boards to the pinnacle, pretty inspiring although he wrote nearly 100% in my lane and made me give up :beli:

Theres an opening now though :shaq:

*calls connects*

Thats the one thing I agree with most.

I dont know exactly how much Grantland was made by ESPN. Seemed like they just provided the infrastructure of design/bandwidth etc and then just some marketing, of which they got a cut.

Hell, I wasn't even sure they were linked directly until ESPN started displaying it more prominently on their page, which they didnt do at first. I was reading it before that and lets be honest, Bill is basically the reason people checked it out and writers like Lowe/Barnwell are why they stayed.

How the fukk did he get Jalen a job? Jalen was working in the media WHILE he was still playing. Stop giving him credit for that.
And he doesn't need ESPN anymore. With youtube he can get his viewers And clicks. His name can stand alone and he'll still succeed just on a smaller level.

Most of his following was already built in. He had a HUGE fan base coming into grantland. It's not like he blew up out of nowhere. Most sports fans knew the guy whether they hated him or not, but he pulled casual and non-sports fans into grantland that don't ever visit espn. That's where he benefitted the espn brand more than they benefitted him. When he leaves his fan base is going with him so it's still not a lose for the man. I don't think the powers that be at ESPN really understand how much people loathe them and are really looking for other options.
