You're an idiot

You're the idiot that failed to understand the article was simply about popularity of the genre vs other popular genres. If you can't understand what the article was about and want to ramble about the quality (again, this is about what consumers are gravitating to; not the quality, musicianship or any other metric.), do you:manny: but if can't understand that, you need to step up your reading comprehension:umad:

"In 2018, Nielsen Soundscan’s year-end music industry report confirmed that R&B/hip-hop was the most popular genre in America. Nine of the 10 most consumed songs in the United States were hip-hop/R&B songs, and as streaming became the dominant way to consume music, eight of the 10 most streamed artists were rappers.

That report focused on 2017, but the period between 2015-2018 was a crescendo for the genre. Established artists like Ye, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne still had more in the tank; younger stars like Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj put their mark on the culture; and rising stars like Pop Smoke, Juice WRLD, XXXTENTACION and Cardi B were already scoring RIAA plaques. Everything was pointing up.

Looking at the hip-hop landscape today, you might get a different feeling. Rap is still enormously popular, but its growth is slowing. Luminate’s mid-year report revealed that R&B/hip-hop still has the largest overall market share of any genre in the United States with 27.6% — but that’s a decline from last year’s 28.4%, even though it widened its lead at the top in terms of overall equivalent album units"

.8% drop when that article was made and all of a sudden HipHop's dominance was in trouble?:childplease::russ:

Another non-FBA in a super high profile position giving opinions on our culture.

Our culture is slipping because it’s been co-opted by outsiders.

No, you literally said I don't have a problem with hip hop and rnb being grouped together because of the MUSIC

You're an idiot
They are two separate things

That's what you said, don't switch up and say I only meant numbers now

dumbass, I clearly explained why

Trad Soul

and HipHop

are clearly different and shouldn't be grouped together

.
.
Modern R&B first seen in New Jack Swing-->HipHop Soul and its variations since that stew was born?

Is actually closer to HipHop than it is to either Trad R&B or Trad Soul music so much that this right here

and this right here

is actually closer to true R&B/Soul....don't get mad at me because you don't know the history of the music:umad:

The article in the OP was about numbers/pure commercial consumption. It didn't have sh1t to do with the quality of the music:childplease:

They shouldn't be grouped together on the sales charts

You're trying to say white artists are more soulful to get a reaction

It won't work because I think you're an idiot

Hiphop and RNB are not the same

They shouldn't be grouped together on the sales charts

they're grouped because they're sonically so close, that more than often, the difference is minimal musically

You're trying to say white artists are more soulful to get a reaction

what YOU think is R&B but is really melodic HipHop

Don't care don't care

SZA for example has songs on her new album that are close to rapping but also has one song that sounds like Pop white girl shyt

Shouldn't be classified under hip hop

If you don’t think anything's "happened" to the quality of Hip Hop music in the past 20-25 years, I don’t know what to tell you.
Quality is subjective.

Hip-Hop is ultimately the cultural expression of the youth. You can’t expect dudes now to rap like the 90’s and you can’t ignore the societal shifts and influence from the past that have occurred to get us to where we are. :francis:

I think hip-hop is still easily the biggest genre just fully decentralized, increasingly regional, and a lot of the guys who were supposed to carry the baton died. A lot of rappers and a lot of styles and something for everyone nowadays.

Brittany Howard definitely came out in the wrong era. Leon is cool too but I don’t listen to enough of his music. It’s definitely looking like a trick was pulled to push the traditional sound to the background and pump up this hiphop/r&b hybrid sound. White pepper looks will eat good with an Alabama Shakes or Leon Bridges song, while urban radio will rely on trap & b. I guess that’s why I be messing with Chris Stapleton songs and shyt, that’s the music we should be singing anyway lol.

Future wasn't mentioned one time in that entire Billboard article. That tells me the article is bogus. What's ironic is he is the rap/r&b hybrid master. T
