Hence the word "most" Mr. Smart Dumb nikka. And no one is talking about disrespect. Most of these so called "woke" Africans online are the most westernized yet. I doubt the majority of Africans on the African continent are even practicing their indigenous religions. lol. I DARE you to dismiss that.

Africans dont use the term "woke" its not something we need to relate to.... but obviously you wouldnt know that dumb ass... we dont need to discover who we are .... this is how we live and are brought up

westernized in what sense.... dont they speak their mother tongue?.... eat their foods? ....... observe their culture

I guess you follow them home to see how they live huh......

Once again you have shown how stupid you are , you aint smart dumb... just dumb

only an idiot such as yourself equates religion with culture .... two different things dumbass ...... only an imbecile would think that not practicing an African religion would mean a person isnt observing their culture .....

lol..... always some sellout devil trying to do the white mans work to divide and conquer ..... we see through you.... ya need to get your mouth off the white mans dikk sellout

KidStranglehold is a good poster so I got no I'll will to him (you)

But I've noticed a lot of Black folks in the west (usually hoteps and the 'woke folk') telling other Africans how to act 'african':skip:

A bit counterintuitive imo:jbhmm:

Reasons like this is why I just stay in my lane and, call my self American. That doesn't mean I don't acknowledge my African genetics but, other than that my way of life is American culture. Also, I would appreciate if Yorubas and other Nigerians would stop calling us black folks who have roots in America since the 1700s akata and call their fellow "brethren" who come to the states it instead.:francis:

Some of the comments from this article are very critical of the author. Suffice to say, several readers thought this article was of poor quality and lacking in understanding. Let me quote some responses.

People are just assuming she is paying homage to Oshun. But say she is.

Are you aware that the Orisa/Orisha are seriously worshipped outside of the Nigeria , Togo, and Benin? This has been going on for hundreds of years now. Yoruba slaves brought Ifa and Orisha worship to the Americas. The religion was preserved most intact in Cuba and Brazil. They risked their lives to preserve Orisha.

I am an African-American initiated in Cuba’s Yoruba religion, Lukumi, sometimes know as Santeria. I am honored to be a keeper of Orisha tradition.

There are millions of practicing Orisha worshippers in both Lukumi (Cuba) and Candomble and Umbanda (Brazil). Every Lukumi priest has a lineage that can be traced back to the slave that brought Orisha religion from Nigeria. We are required to memorize it.

Beyonce is most likely paying homage to Oshun in a way familiar to those who practice Orisha in the Americas. Sometimes wearing gold and yellow is just a way to acknowledge the Orisha, not intimidate.

Beyonce acknowledging Oshun is not cultural appropriation. The Orisha are not foreign in America. The United States Supreme Court recognizes Orisa/Orisha worship and the right to sacrifice. Research Church of the Lukumi Babalu Aye v. City of Hialeah. Cubans brought Lukumi-Yoruba /Orisha worship to the US after the Cuban Revolution. Since then many African-Americans have been initiated as priest.

Again, wearing gold and yellow does not mean she was imitating Osun/Oshun. Beyonce did have on the ceremonial Oshun outfits that Oshun priest wear during initiation or the initiation gala/bembe. She was not doing any Oshun dances for Grammy consumption. I saw nothing ceremonial in the performance. I saw respect and homage POSSIBLY ,because we are only assuming her outfit was related to Oshun.

I’m Brazilian, I was just going to say how the writer don’t even know what the fukk he was talking about. He didn’t even name Oxum an Orixá. “Spiritual Figure, Goddess”.

C’mon man, you should know more about the religion, it’s open, even white people practice it.
Wearing the symbols IS paying homage, and you are ignorant.

First, you offer no proof of your claim. Please explain the reasons why you think this is true. Where are the similarities? Do you have any visual representations that bolster your case? Just because you say it, doesn’t make it so.

Second, Beyoncé invokes more than one sacred image. In her we see Shakti, the multi-armed Hindu Goddess. With her crown and halo she gives us the iconic Virgin Mary. In short, Beyoncé serves her audience the mystery of the sacred feminine, the fecund life-bringer and protectress of hearth and home.

Oshun isn’t a deity that solely resides in Africa; you can also find the orishas in Cuba, the Dominican republic as well and I can go on. The orishas are part of a BELIEF that began in one culture, just like Christianity, Buddhisim and Muslim people, you can’t appropriate a belief. Pretty much anyone can believe in the Orishas… This article doesn’t make sense e-e

What that mean?
From what I hear Nigerians tell me, its a Yoruba word that means black cat or a black man/woman who lives in the west, that doesn't know where they come from. The strange thing is I've only heard them use it against AAs, not afro Cubans, afro Brazilians, Caribbeans etc just AAs.
