Here is what I don't understand and maybe @Professor Emeritus and others more knowledgeable of the education scene can inform me on this
What does MIT use for admissions? Is it strictly test scores and GPA?
If that's the case, why isn't there a concerted effort by black people to have their children "optimized" to take the test and excel at the SAT and at school, the same way these Asian people do?
This is not me saying that black people don't care about education. That's a fukking lie. I know many black parents who are singularly invested in their child's education. But holistically, not at the potential and probable expense of their child's mental health. They aren't making their children attend SAT prep as early as the 6th grade. And this isn't wrong. But we now know what the political landscape is regarding affirmative action and any admissions where race and historical injustices are taken into account... the country ain't having it. So if it's important that we are not only educated, but also represented at the very highest levels of education like MIT and Berkeley, why not change tactics? These Asians are playing the game openly because they know what the measurement is based on. Why can't we?
My future child attending MIT isn't that important to me. But it it was, you'd bet I'd have his/her ass in continuous SAT and after school programs. Gaokao his/her brain
. Why isn't there a collective effort there?
Appreciate this being shot down if there's something I'm missing here.
