I was in it but I'm not interested in putting my daughter in it. Definitely not what it's made out to be- (not the area where I was). I didn't get much of anything out of it- elitist snobbery, basically to keep so called influential and black societal types connected. My mother was on that wave- "keeping up with appearances", for lack of a better phrase. That didn't fit in with my mentality. Better off finding a local organization in your city or town, for young black girls/teens focused on community efforts, nurturing, guidance and bonding rather than assimilation into a set type of mentality.

My moms was the same way, big time social climbing back in the day, she tried to get me in JnJ. Tying to be something she wasn’t or aspiring to a higher level depending on how you look at it I guess. I went to a few meet ups/ play dates at somebody big ass house or spots like Q-Zar, where the parents over there chilling and the kids off doing they thing. Didn’t work tho, I was always hardheaded and the kids in it never really took to me anyway. My pops did well but he mos def didn’t fit the mold of the other parents, and it negated anything my mom was on. So I was always on the outside looking in. Ma dukes gave that dream up quick anyway, she was right tho, I would’ve embarrassed her after a while. I just wasn’t gonna do right, she actually eventually dipping out altogether on me and pops. Looking back now I don’t blame her tho, his side was so deep and ratchet, anything she did would get overwhelmed just by sheer numbers. I’d get one dose of high clsss from her and about 5-6 doses of hood shyt from my pops people. Back then I hated it, but I’m glad she exposed me to just the little bit that I saw tho, shyt has helped me a lot just in terms of making me interested in shyt and wanting to learn and see new stuff, which in turn makes you think differently and you approach stuff from different angles.
