Some Dominicans can be extremely irrational when it comes to national pride. I think it's a form of identity crisis and clinging to something even if the thing you're clinging onto is opposed to your own very being.

I dont really get into DR politics or what’s really going on since I grew up in the US but....

that’s the Caribbean in general man. I can tell you a lot of Jamaicans do the same thing not just y’all. I harp on it all the time but in the Caribbean at large, there is an insane obsession in putting nationality above race and then obsessing over being tribal to each other
when we get black people from the islands in the mainstream like amara la negra they wanna speak on mainly colorism instead of deeper issues
many of the island nations haven’t had recent instances of white supremacy in a covert way...at least not that they felt so they continue to stay in a bubble. Black Americans always from day one nonstop have had to deal with that so they learned to stick together and fight for these issues
I’m honestly can not recall seeing major protests fighting against racism in DR or a lot of Caribbean countries ...outside of Brazil cause the Afro Brazilians do fight against injustice
