I know this thread has been shared already and it’s the same for a lot of Northern cities but it can’t be overstated. Another thing that people don’t talk about it the lack of education like that article mentions.

I didn’t learn shyt from like 8-12th grade and it’s hard to get into those exclusive HS. Then I have people like one of my best friends who went to a Stuyvesant and she experienced racism every day ( it was like 30 black people at that time) now they admitted like 8).

So rent already high af then you gotta pay for private education because your kid can’t get into the good schools and if they do, they living like everybody hates Chris

The article is not saying these 200k black families weren’t home owners in the city… Of course they are going to get priced out if they are renting…

I’m a black man in the city I ain’t got those problems…
Thanks one percent Oscar, what about the majority of your people ?

unless you're really making major paper its hard AF to survive as a family man/provider. There's more to life than hustling until you're blue in the face. Its always better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond IMO
It's so weird to read on nyc subreddit how people saying they would never leave NYC because it's so unique and has everything. I grew up in NYC and I think it's an amazing city but if you don't got it like that, then there's no reason to continue living here when you can have a much more comfortable life in different cities. Who cares that you can go to the corner store at 1am or able go to a restaurant with different cuisines. I rather live somewhere where I can have a modern apartment and still have a decent amount to save each month than to live in an apartment that was built in the early 1900's for $2k+ and have nothing to save or share the apartment with a roomate/s as an adult.

The ONLY way I’d live in NYC is if I was earning double what I make now. I currently make six figures, and my livelihood would drastically decline if I were to move there. Wouldn’t be able to save for retirement and invest as much as I do now.

Plus, I don’t know anyone there and I’m not from there. It’s much more difficult to relocate somewhere when you don’t have any roots or connections. Live great somewhere else VS Live mediocre in New York.
