i think that this whole debate among black folks may be doing more harm than good. treating black men like white men is filled with areas where the analogy breaks down. if we ask ourselves, "who would you choose to be if all you wanted was an easier life?" and you had to choose between being a white woman or a black man, and if everybody knows white woman is the correct answer, then we have to question the notion of gender privilege in a society where the institutions of consequence are dominated by white people of both genders.
at most, there is a system of preference for black men in terms of church leadership, but really, in anything that matters to real life outcomes, black women are doing fine or even better compared to black men. that includes education, employment, keeping a clean criminal record, rate of being murdered, etc.
