That was the number back in the 80s when I was in elementary school. I've learned not to believe it taking the statistics courses I've had to take to get my Ugrad degree. You can manipulate the variables to come up with whatever number you want and at best, and at your most honest, it's only still a guesstimate. Even census-taking is flawed. If you're into genealogy, you see how when there was a fraction of the population the country has now, how huge things like family relation, age and race can change from census to census. I believe the number is higher than that. Same for the number of gay people, 2%?

I find it hard to believe that number only changed 1% point in 3 decades (I've heard 14% as of 2011).

What about our demographic would have caused it to increase? we still have the lowest life expectancy of all races in this country

the Latino/Hispanic population boomed cause of the massive influx of immigrants from Latin America....Black folks didn't really have anything like that. Yeah you have Carribean and African immigrants, but nowhere near the levels of what Latinos have had.

80-2000's had insane amounts of Latino immigrants coming into the country.

Movies is arbitration, because they selectively cast movies without certain races by choice. Lets move it a step further to underrepresented group on TV, where are they, the non-white on TV, where are they. America is culturally diverse, right?

As for corporations its different, corporations/businesses want diversity. They do, however, want to hire everyone (So they say) however education/experience/etc becomes a factor.

True story, a corporation which was white, went to go for bid (find new clients) the potential client, said he was tired of white guys showing up at the meetings and where is the diversity? The corporation did some research, how diverse is the city of corp HQ? 20%. What is the diversity of the corporation? 10%. So the company went out to increase qualified applicants and career/job offers. The corporation even went towards the high school level to recruit, and come to find out, folk gotta get their grades up.

Thats why the competition is not with cac, but yourself and similar groups, and a higher standard of ideal. Cacs might be a referendum but its not where the bucks start/stop.

I'm not exactly lying breh... i never said that East Los is devoid of nikkas. but there are some areas in East LA where the mexican/latino population percentage is in the high 90's.

black actors in this movie would be an accurate representation of the total population of blacks as a whole...all in good roles or just one in a complex role will be fine.

What's the objective of the survey, obviously my comments go beyond being limited to the united states ideology and basicness, and how realistically one can effect change in a Sociology course.

the supporting dude, whose goal is just work, so we never see his family life, and they end to be?
there a street thug with a broken home, and they tend to be??????

there is a damsel in distress and she tends to be?????

you're not lying but it's a gross exaggeration. you wont be able to go anywhere in southern california for hours and not spot black people. gentrification is pushing a lot of us towards the south but we're out here. the racial demographic of my area (south los angeles, around 10 minutes from downtown LA)

I know that, but if i was just chilling in City Terrace for the day, it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to only see mexicans/latinos.

That # is higher i would put it at anywhere between 20%-28%. These counts are based on the census and you have to take a couple of things into factor

- a lot of people in poor urban areas dont do censuses, a lot of blacks live in this area
-there is a option for "other" on these censuses a large part of mixed blacks choose this
- people in prison are counted but am sure they mess it up somehow
