Lets talk about it..

i've been reading alot about gentrification. often its framed as any white moving into a historically black area...however its much more complex. anyway there are a number of places where gentrification is being driven by middle/high income black people: notably, Harlem, New Yawk, Bronzeville, Chicago, NE and SE DC, the Atlanta suburbs, etc.

Any other places?

We should want black people with money to move back to our neighborhoods
:yeshrug:
the counterargument is that gentrifiers no materr what race still (generally) make it more expensive for people, especially lower income, to live there

there's a lot of literature out there and media (here especially) that show a sentiment of folks not liking middle/upper income blacks or blacks from the suburbs

The countercounterargument is that richer blacks can employ poorer blacks and keep the money in those communities longer.

Im thinking those attitudes will change if the neighborhoods get better as a result

It’s a sorely underlooked phenomenon where people act like displacement is less harmful to the color of a neighborhood when the skin tones are similar. Buppies and whatever word du vent these people call themselves nowadays have just as much of an impact wrt entitlement and superiority complexes and their shopping habits. I will say though there tends to be much less police activity/escorting for new poc in the neighborhood so it’s not as drastic.

This def applies to Brooklyn and all the transplants as well.

well this process has been happening since the 90s, so maybe folks from NYC, Chicago, ATL, and DC can share their thoughts

what do you mean by entitlement and shopping habits? how are middle/high income blacks entitled and how do their shopping habits affect their lower income neighborhors?
Which areas in BK have the most "buppies"? Bed Stuy?

This is happening in Baton Rouge around LSU. The Gardere and McKinley demographics have changed. They've gotten rid of apartments in the area, built a casino out there, new shopping centers also.
