I live in ATL and just purchased in a new development in the Lakewood Heights area. Our neighborhood is cool, but the surrounding area is an absolute food dessert. It's not dangerous, just poor. Our whole neighborhood is young black professionals. My wife and I (GMB) are looking at the open land everywhere plotting on saving up enough money to open some businesses before the Beltline gets built about a mile away and white people start flooding the area.

We started a scholarship for HS students in the area and help out with local government campaigns. Got some other bigger plans as time goes on.

Am I good or bad for black people? I don't know. If we don't gentrify ourselves, someone else is going to do it.

well this process has been happening since the 90s, so maybe folks from NYC, Chicago, ATL, and DC can share their thoughts

what do you mean by entitlement and shopping habits? how are middle/high income blacks entitled and how do their shopping habits affect their lower income neighborhors?
Which areas in BK have the most "buppies"? Bed Stuy?
Newark is changing, but it will not become Brooklyn, mayor promises

Give me a few hours, I’ll explain.

I'm a black gentrifier. (I think)
It was either this or be the only black person on my block/neighborhood cause I wasn't moving to the hood :manny:
My neighborhood was never poor though. It was historically black and wealthy, white people are starting to take it over though. So my neighbors on either side are blacks, they just are 80 yrs old. So I'm young(ish) and black in an area where it's pretty much white or black ppl who were rich 50 yrs ago and still live in the area. I can tell when I'm doing my lawn etc people probably think i'm a gardener as opposed to the actual owner of the land. We got some mail that belonged to a cac neighbor and my wife went to return it and the cac was like "how did YOU receive this?" assuming we don't live in the area :snoop:
like bytch we live 3 doors down from you and our house was more expensive, foh
shyt crazy

If we keeping it real, middle class- upper middle class black kids being raised in a gentrifying hoods is only going to make alot of those kids get involved in the street life.

Facts. Seen this with my own eyes. PJs get knocked down, PJ kids move to the burbs, all of a sudden you got nikkas from 2 parent, upper middle class, church going moms, active in the community sweater vest wearing ass dads talking about they gds trying to start a rap career hanging out in the hunneds selling drugs :martin:

How is it? Remember that hood being on the hood 2 hood blockumentary.

The projects or buildings in that dvd looks much better today from the looks on google maps.

it's different from what it was in the 90s when it was the worst area in the city. Especially the areas closer to the south loop. It's still hood in certain areas and the icke projects still there, but its a mix of middle class and poor black ppl.

That’s dope. Many of the blocks in the area look very like empty lots. I notice empty lots seem to be everywhere in many of the run down or gentrifying black areas. Lots of room to build.

i've been reading up on the "Best Southwest", after DC suburbs and Atlanta suburbs, it seems to be one of the nations largest middle class black area
i've also read a lot of negative things about Dallas tho
What negative things have you heard about Dallas, just curious

Southeast DC
Inner suburbs are good investments tho
Fun fact, a lot of cacs are looking at moving into Capitol Heights in a few years. The spot I'm at in DC cacs wont go to it because no access to the trains directly so the looking at them burbs inside the beltway.

Inner burbs in DC are golden because the subways go there.

Was impressed to see the subway in or around Tyson’s Corner, VA.
