Advice for brehs thinking of coming out here besides making sure you learn the language
1. Don’t be fat. I don’t think it’s as much a problem as the Japanese diet and western African diet is so close so it’s good for our bodies but this is the one country you don’t want to be overweight in. A. It’s hot and humid as fukk so you’ll be sweating your ass off in the summer. 2. Everything is very small and depending where you are crowded.
2. Grooming. The bum hippie look don’t really play in Japan. Long hair, locks, beard doesn’t play well. Not saying no chicks like it but if you plan on being here long they like clean shaven. Also Japanese have sensitive noses so watch what cologne you wearing
3. Get your degree. You need a degree to get a visa unless you’re married to a Japanese already. Once you have your degree unless you are in IT an engineering the only job you will likely get is English teaching and even then it’s likely you’ll be doing part time because it’s really hard to get into the junior highs or international schools if your Japanese isn’t on point and you don’t have certain or experience. JET is the most preferable.
4. I would find a job in Japan before you leave so you can have your company set you up with a home and vehicle that way you don’t have to do it yourself and as gaijin know a lot of land lords don’t lease to foreigners.
5. If a Japanese girl come up speaking English to you don’t automatically assume she wants to fukk. Japanese are like Calculus majors that end up working at call centers. You don’t need English in Japan it’s one of the reasons they suck at learning it, so people that work hard to learn English really have nothing to show for it so they will use whatever opportunity to talk English to a foreigner. So if you end up having a convo in English with a Japanese and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere just know they might be practicing on you.
6. Don’t do dirt. Especially drugs. Don’t even think about it. You already stand out and you’ll get popped sooner or later. Somebody at the club offer you some just walk away don’t even talk to them. Japan doesn’t have innocent until proven guilty. They have guilty until proven guilty. Once a foreigner gets hemmed up in Japan your Japan privileges are over even if you’re innocent. Not only that you don’t have the right to a speedy trial. They’ll hold you in lock up under near torturous conditions until you confess. The US embassy at best will send you some legal documents so you know your rights but they’ll be like

your on your own.
7. Careful with the booze. Japanese drink to socialize. If you start working at a company they will likely make you drink. Not just have a few and chill but get hammered and have to be up to work 3 hours later. Learn to say no, I’ve seen too many foreigners age 20 years off that shyt.
8. Tokyo is a world city and it’s hard to beat but if you wanna be here long term I would suggest trying Inaka or “country side”. It’s severe population decline out here and they need English teachers and workers to replace the young people who move away. The Japanese country side is beautiful and nothing is really ever that far away.
