I always assumed Asian counties rolled out the red carpet for cacs. Am I a bad person for saying this pleasantly surprised me?

Best way to put it is its a caste system. Japanese men, below that Japanese women, and then everyone else.

I got so many stories of cacs getting treated out here lmao. Had this Irish dude I worked with who tried to hand this Japanese lady her change she dropped on the ground she screamed in his face and ran away. He was hot.

It don’t bother me I think it’s funny. One time I was walking to the train station and this Japanese girl like 15 was in front of my like a block ahead. She turned her head and must caught me out the corner of her eye, she broke into a dead jog. It’s 90 degrees 100% humidity but beat it so fast you thought she was trying to qualify at the Olympic trials. 10 minutes later I could still see her jogging in the distance.


But seriously go on any gaijin forum, especially Reddit and you’ll see em all crying about how they get treated out here.

As a Black man who not only has been to Japan, but has also had dealings with Japanese people for the past 15 years:

-- Japanese people on the whole are more ignorant than outright KKK-type racist, especially to Black folk

-- If Japanese people ARE racist, it's towards Koreans and Chinese (and perhaps other southeast asians, like Filipinos, who they tend to look down on). They don't look at us in the same fashion as White people look at us. It's like a curiosity

-- Their country is something like 98% them, where they all speak the same language with (minor differences, outside of Okinawa). This means, not just Black folk, but any other group of people stick out like a sore thumb. Because their culture is about collectivism and focusing on the group, western people can't handle it. We're so caught up in sticking out and trying to be expressive, when you got 150 million people trying to fit in. There's going to be some clashing there.

-- If you speak the language, YOU'RE IN. They open up to you like a fukking children's book. To be clear, to them, you'll never be Japanese (I've had girls call me a "gaikokujin" while they were here in LA lmao. That word means foreigner), but you'll be in the group. Absolute dime pieces will be available to you, and they have incredible personalities.

That's been my experience.

Living in Japan while Black can be difficult if you're not trying to fit in and if you refuse to acclimate to the culture and language. You might also run into some issues with people thinking you're a tout. The African touts over there are particularly aggressive-- nikkas grabbed my arm and tried to drag me into a club fam

I don't live in Japan. I just spent significant time there, and I'm going back in October. I ain't missing Halloween for NOBODY.

And yes, the African brehs that live there have a hard time getting work (because Japan's immigration policies make Trump look like Mother Teresa).

So they end up working for shady establishments, even the Yakuza. They will grab you to pull you into a club or a whore house. Shyt real out here, and I feel sorry for them because it's seemingly the only work they can get.

Same thing happened to me. But I was on a walk from Shinjuku to Odaiba and these kids probably hadn’t seen a black person outside of the street hustlers there.

Considering the length of the Rainbow bridge, they saw me once and did not stop running.

I can't tell you how much this shyt amuses me.

Asian countries don't give a FUKK about White people. It's incredible to see, growing up as an American where you're inundated with their standards all the time.

The amount of Swedish, British, Australian and Americans I met that were asking me how my experience was (because theirs wasn't red carpet) was hilarious. I'm like "this shyt is great!" and they're confused as hell

Yeah I don’t know where the myth white peoples get treated better out here came from. As one English dude put it to me, yeah they act like they like you so they can show you off to their friends and then never talk to you again.


I also get the feeling most Japanese hate English. The language is too hard for the vast majority of them to learn. I mean some can speak it competently but in terms of writing and grammar forget it. They get pushed by their parents so hard to learn it that it just ends up causing trauma and resentment. The only kids who really learn are the ones sent to international schools that cost money so there is the added resentment of class as well.

English PTSD is real out here. I’ve had cashiers break into sweats because they think I’m gonna start speaking English to them and it brings back memories of cram school.

As you said if you want to live in Japan learn the language.

Tell me why, before I first went out there, I'd heard that Tokyo was "foreigner friendly", so I take my black ass out there thinking shyt was sweet


Now, I'm advance conversational level, but even I was struggling. Don't go out there thinking you gonna be good with English. You better have a buddy that can speak both, because they don't do English out there. for real lol

It was kinda cool being in another place where I literally had to rely on my schooling to survive. Refreshing.

In my experience, Japan hasn't been, but Korea has been.

Koreans are way more closed minded about a lot of things breh, and I'm just telling you what I know. I'm sure there are some Japanese colorists out there, but they ain't ever came at me sideways about my skin tone. In fact, they've always said they loved it (I'm like a honey colored brown skin).

What they do like to do is touch your hair and ask questions about it. I rock a ceaser with 360 waves and that shyt confounded them lmaooooo Called me all kinds of honeycombs and shyt

I fukk with Koreans heavy, but they are waaaaaaay more difficult to interact with, family. One thing I will say though, is if either Japanese or Koreans date a Black man, they don't give a fukk about his skin tone. I seen plenty of these couples and the dude blacker than Wesley.

So my advice is to not worry about it too much. Be who you are and fukk who don't like it

I couldn’t imagine learning Japanese.
