Black"literature" isn't doing black folks any favor.

:mjcry:The reason they made a black character white in movie adaptation of Zane's Addicted it was the way to draw in a broad audience... Smh
Wait, are you telling me that the white guy smutting out the black chick in the trailers...is black in the book?

I remember they did that same shyt with the "Spawn" live action movie. Al Simmons wife wasn't fukking with a cac in the comics...but they made him white in the film for "more appeal".

white literature sucks just as much. re-read the first harry potter. the writing is trash, but the author was good at going into detail

Now I haven't read Addicted as many times as I have Nervous (the follow up book) but I do remember the story, details, and main characters and I do not recall no white guy as one of the other men... It feels like a Tyler Perry move to gain a whiter audience..

Cornfields, cows, & an one stoplight town
lol I'm never reading Harry Potter as a grown woman... I'll take ur word for it.

Well, I highly recommend them. The first few books are rather kiddish, because they are written for children, but the last 4 books read like Stephen King. Stephen King isn't a great author, but he's entertaining as hell.

Damn, that shyt is foul.

I have no intention of ever reading or watching the movie so tell me...does she end up staying loyal to her husband or does she leave him because of her "addiction"?

Dwelling on the past will not help matters. Our ancestors failed us but we as a generation have to rise up. We have liberty. And in any case, you cannot put a seal on knowledge, especially now in the internet age. There is no excuse to better yourself or, in the case of writers, pursue your dreams.

We all have a chance to make a difference NOW. If we make a difference now the generations that come after us will not be as lost or confused as we all are. I read history a lot. I am fascinated and inspired by people like Lewis Carroll or Michael Faraday, who accomplished so much with so little. If there were black facsimiles for these kinds of personalities, it would've made growing up be a lot easier for me.

Failed us? They were just trying to survive, which they were barely able to do. They had different worries bthan you do

in a perfect world, everyone would be accountable for their own successes or failures but we don't live in a perfect world. i think it is unfair for me to get judged on things that my ancestors or ppl who happen to look like me did or didn't do, but that's what happens. that means that i have a responsiblity to all of you and to future generations to conduct myself properly and to make the right breakthroughs. we all do.

sobering thought, i know.

It's funny PIMP literature was the actually start of "Urban" Black literature. Robert Beck aka Iceberg Slim sold millions of copies of his books and was the first to expose Black street life.

This is one good I can't wait for to come out by none other than Gangsta Brown...

So I'm guessing the whole Harlem Renaissance didn't happen ? :dahell:
"Urban Life" for African American's expressed through literature existed decades before Iceberg Slim or any other Pimp turned author started putting out books.
