Sasha Johnson: Five arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over shooting of BLM activist

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/sasha-johnson-shooting-arrest-blm-b1854251.html

Two men and three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over the shooting of activist Sasha Johnson in Peckham, south London.

The Black Lives Matter campaigner remains critically ill in hospital after being shot in the head after gunfire erupted at a party on Sunday night.

Police in the area stopped a 17-year-old boy on Tuesday and arrested him on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Their investigation led them to an address in Peckham where three others – an 18-year-old, a 19-year-old and a 28-year-old – were all arrested on suspicion of affray and possession with intent to supply class B drugs.

A fifth man, aged 25, was later arrested after failing to stop following a police pursuit of a car in Peckham.

They were all subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remain in custody, the Metropolitan Police said.

Two homes in Peckham and the car from the chase are being searched, the force said.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Leonard, from the Met’s specialist crime unit, said: “While the investigation remains in its early stages, these arrests show that progress is being made.

“However, I would continue to appeal to those who may hold information about the events that led to Sasha receiving her horrific injuries, or about those responsible, to do the right thing and come forward and speak to police.”

Superintendent Kris Wright, from the Central South Command Unit, responsible for policing in Southwark and Lambeth, said: “These arrests are the result of instinctive local police work, combined with fast-time intelligence gathering, and shows the effectiveness of the various police teams in the Met working together.

“Local officers, supported by specialist teams, will continue to be in and around the Peckham area in the coming days and I continue to urge anyone with concerns to engage with them.”

A clean strap in Toronto right now is $6000-7000, if you want something concealable expect $8000-$10,0000.

Gun costs a mortgage payment but nikkas are still getting killed/shot everyday same thing in England:mjlol:

Pop Smoke just won 5 billboard awards the other night when his music, his representation and his gang is nothing but filth, destruction and violence. Our culture makes martyrs out of street thugs.
You really think Black folk have that much power over the Billboard Awards? This country is 87% non-Black people, they're the ones making those #'s pop.

I'm not disagreeing that the community shouldn't be promoting music like that and and that bullshyt in rap right now IS a problem, just saying that Billboard Awards ain't the best example.

You can't be serious with this shyt.

USA has 120 guns for every 100 people.
Canada has 35 guns for every 100 people.
UK has 3 guns for every 100 people.

USA has 120 gun deaths a year per million people.
Canada has 19 gun deaths a year per million people.
UK has 2 gun deaths a year per million people.

So USA has SIXTY TIMES the gun death rate that the UK has. And you're seriously gonna front that gun laws don't make a difference?

I think you are bit loony in the head. People stated that it was a Black man before any information was out on this. And I haven't see make anyone the association with Chinese or East Indians, but for sure the are involved in crimes. Just different crimes.

The remainder part of you was all over the place and just babble, since I never stated anything negative about Kevin Samuels or Obama (except) for his LGBTQ support). The few Black men who do these things do not represent the vast majority of Black men.

In order to understand the history of absent fathers you have to understand the history of false incarcerations. Close to 50% of Black men is exonerated and most do extensive lone time in jail before being exonerated. And out of wedlock doesn't mean the father is absent, it means the the child was procreated before marriage.

African-Americans More Likely to be Wrongfully Convicted | Research at Michigan State University

The amount of false arrests and killings of unarmed Black people (in particularly Black men) increased drastically during the years of he Obama administration.

There have been 900.000 false arrested black lives that were made between 2007 and 2015 by NYPD, but Obama was right? Or the 50% of exonerated black lives, because of false incarceration, as shown above and below? Or the almost 90% of clearances of black lives in FBI stats?

New York City to Pay Up to $75 Million Over Dismissed Summonses (Published 2017)

“Examining the individual cases revealed that cleared murders were disproportionately more likely to be barred to prosecution if they involved African-American victims or occurred in police districts on the crime-plagued South Side of the city. Closing cases this way not only boosts an agency’s clearance rate, but also means that prosecutors don’t handle as many of the tougher cases that can take a toll on their conviction rates.

In other words, you need to get your facts straight, before you pop open your mouth, because I will school you on peer reviewed sources, criminology, sociology etc….

The prison to pipeline system data by race is out there, so they start young with Black boys, systemically putting Black men in their system, but we are supposed to let this slide, right weak ass punk!?

Study: black people are 7 times more likely than white people to be wrongly convicted of murder

Why Exonerations of Falsely Accused Are Reaching Historic Levels

Both things can be right. I'm not neglecting or acting like what you posted isn't a problem. In fact, most black people aren't talking enough about this and only speak on the issues the media make viral such as police shootings.

Point is , the music shouldn't be celebrated and promoted the way it is. In NYC you can't go one damn day without hearing a Pop Smoke song. It gets proudly promoted and stuff down our throats (pause).

From her organization:

Whilst the Met police appear to be making progress, investigating Sasha’s attempted murder, our concerns are that they are simply using individuals in the community as scapegoats for a crime they potentially did not commit. We have had inside sources inform us that the police have made no door-to-door enquiries in the area following the shooting. We are also concerned that they have made no attempt at this, yet have arrested 5 individuals – after claiming that there were only 4 attackers – on suspicion of attempted murder with no valid evidence.

We find it ridiculous that one of these five men, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder purely due to “affray” and allegedly refusing to stop for the police. How does this warrant an arrest for suspicion of attempted murder on this basis? We feel that whilst the police are making these arrests on invalidated precedence, they could be better spending their time investigating the aspects of this case that could actually direct them to the criminals responsible.

We also feel as though arresting these individuals on this basis and highlighting that they were carrying drugs with intent to supply, is subliminally suggesting that this is a gang related crime as opposed to an attempt of murder. This majorly concerns us as we cannot allow for more individuals in our communities to fall as victims of crime and not get the justice they deserve, whilst other members of the community are getting accused of crimes they did not commit purely because they fit the “profile”. We urge the police to take responsibility, take this crime seriously and investigate adequately.

Charles Gordon from Taking the Initiative Party has commented, "we have seen numerous occasions in the past where police have fallen under pressure to produce results, leading them to go out and arrest anyone in order to look busy. A couple of examples of this is the Guildford 4 case, Paul Blackburn’s case and many more; one of the main things Sasha stands for in a powerful way is injustice. The statement I would have expected to hear from the police would have been ‘following our investigations and door-to-door enquiries we have made 5 arrests’. However, hearing someone was stopped on a stop and search and then arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, does not sound plausible and is majorly concerning. Sasha is a mother, an activist, an entrepreneur and a community leader; she is a rising star. Our primary focus is on Sasha’s well-being and her recovery."

Although we all want to see the attackers brought to justice, we do not want potentially innocent people charged with attempted murder and becoming part of the statistics, subjects to the injustices that Sasha has been fighting against. It is vital that the police do their job and not fall under pressure, attempting to find scapegoats from the community Sasha has fought so hard to protect.
