White Women aka the Mistress -- were on the same level as their White Males husbands/mates. They often ran everything when their husbands were away for long periods of time. They were often more brutal and sadistic than their male partners.

I understand the underlying comparison of womanhood to chattel, but that in itself dismisses a non-enslaved woman's own agency. And I say "non-enslaved" because what does that argument say about enslaved women? Are they saying there's no difference???
