Also...black is synonymous with AA.

It does not mean African :comeon:

yes it does

black also means moor

let me put it this way ....

historically, the term african was used to describe someone with dark skin, kinky hair, broad nose, thick lips etc.

historically, the term moor was used to describe someone with dark skin, kinky hair, broad nose, thick lips etc.

historically, the term indios/indian was used to describe someone with dark skin, kinky hair, broad nose, thick lips etc.

historically the term negro/negar/n*gger was used to describe someone with dark skin, kinky hair, broad nose, thick lips etc.

today the term black/african is used to describe someone with dark skin, kinky hair, broad nose, thick lips etc.

An African American just means an American with dark skin, kinky hair, broad nose, thick lips etc. You don't even have to have all of those features, and you will still be recognized as having significant African (or black) ancestry/blood.

As someone of Jamaican and Nigerian descent born and raised in the UK, this isn't a new concept to me or anyone around me. Not to throw shade but the only time I've ever heard a distinction between being black and being African-American is when I visit my family and spend time in the States.

Go anywhere else in the world and they don't care where you were born or where your family did or didn't originate from, you're just a black person to them :manny:

He said that in reference to him being of West Indian descent and not totally confirming with the American concept of black, and when he went to Puerto Rico and realized how in touch they were with their African roots and how "black" they actually are.

This the bullshyt jealous slick talk I'm talking about. So mad no one acknowledges their culture they attack the authenticity of AA culture all while mimicking it.

Thanks for sharing this interview! Also, threads like this are why I had to quit lurking (after 2 years) and join the Coli. Y'all play around a lot, but then there are gems like this. It's nice to see, in contrast with the negativity on the news and the many stereotypes and ignorant views I battle everyday as a black woman (in a majority white city), "in real life."

Okay, I just finished watching it in its entirety, and that was fire. Honestly touched my soul because he said some stuff that I've thought/shared for years, but it's always shut down. Guess it's too real. But I'm always going to keep it 100.

Thank you, again!
