Threadstarter stays bashing the church yet his agnosticism hasnt given him this mystical success that would come to us all if we just would stop believing.

We havent had any long term successful atheist civilizations. We've had atheist communist societies and people couldnt wait to get out.

That 8 in 10 seems high, but maybe my perspective is skewed given my geography and the educational attainment of my friends.

But count me in the 20%

That's been status quo in my family for at least 3 generations. My grandad went fishing Sunday's while grandma was at church. Dad was watching football while mom's was at service. Bad part was the boy's were dragged to church until middle school and could stay home with pops to watch the games:blessed: my sister's had to attend until high school:umad: Gender roles were real in our fam and we turned out well for them:francis:

3 Types of black men go to church: 1. Family men (go out of habit) 2. Homosexuals 3. Scam Artists

Means they don't go to church as often. Seriously. That's it.

These studies are meaningless.

Church attendance was only 1 of the factors. Most black men I know don't attend church weekly and haven't since like 12 years old. They still believe in Jesus and pray.

This site is so weird

They only used 4 criteria to establish 'religiosity'...

Most and least religious U.S. states
There are many potential ways of defining what it means to be religious, but for the purposes of this analysis, we looked at four common measures of religious observance: worship attendance, prayer frequency, belief in God and the self-described importance of religion in one’s life.
....
What does it mean to be “highly religious”? In our analysis, this includes any adult who reports at least two of four highly observant behaviors – attending religious services at least weekly, praying at least daily, believing in God with absolute certainty and saying that religion is very important to them — while not reporting a low level of religious observance in any of these areas, such as seldom or never attending religious services, seldom or never praying, not believing in God and saying that religion is “not too” or “not at all” important in their life. We also define a person as “highly religious” if they report three highly religious behaviors and a low level of religiosity on a fourth measure.

Most Black men I've encountered believe in 'G-d', also, yet don't attend worship services and don't give religion that much of an important role. As far as 'belief' goes, only 3% of Black people self-describe as atheists/non-believers. The funny thing about that little bit of information is that they DO believe in some sort of 'spirituality', just not 'orthodox' Christian/Islamic/Judaic or some reasonable facsimile of one (or all) of them.

I'm an atheist but the girl dealing with assumes I believe in God :yeshrug: I've made no mention of it or inclination that I do believe.

I told her I haven't been to church since the 7th grade. She asks why but I don't think she really csres
