sorry I’m not from the suburbs:unimpressed:

checc yoself, gated community nikka
In one post you calling her all out her name for shopping there in the first place. In the other you saying your mom & sister would be also shopping there?

Maybe she wasn’t in tune with their ways before

Hopefully now she stops giving them her money

60% whites in digital Blk face pushing the idea that she shouldn’t even be there anyway and blk female haters that will align themselves with any rhetoric as long as the scenario is shytting on the evil Blk wimminz that won’t fukk them. That’s what this place is becoming.

Meanwhile the rest of us looking round like :dwillhuh:

Whites love that “why are you even here” line a lot of ya’ll are trying to pivot this scenario into. The expectation for good service transcends race.

And it’s funny b:c in instances where the reverse is happening and whites are complaining about our service, many jump to critique how bad the attitudes are from Blk women in the service industry.
Nobody EVER mentions that whites shouldn’t be in those businesses.

How the fukk are ya’ll this mentally cowed? :hhh:Culture of cowardice is in full effect. Blame the victim instead of holding the aggressors accountable.

I don’t give a damn if you like me. I got just as much right to be any fukking where I want and you will serve me. Or get sued for discrimination.

She wasn’t wrong for being human and having a human fukking reaction (which reminds me to say fukk u the next time one of ya’ll whine about blk men not being able to express their feelings but a Blk woman being down is met with denigration).

Society is wrong. Trying to avoid this shyt by blaming the victim won’t change it. We HAD our own businesses and they still came for us. Because we ran instead of facing attitudes like this head the fukk on. I’m glad she put em on blast. Ya’ll more protective of these companies than you are of those they shytting on.
We can walk and chew gum at the same time. Purchase Blk while shaming discriminatory white companies and suing the fukk out of them.

There’s your solution. Not: “That wack ass Blk bytch that wouldnt suck my dikk (b:c that’s where a lot of this resentment comes from btw) shouldn’t even be there but I’m secretly glad she’s crying.”
Fukkin wow.:mjlol:

Well so, right on this part. I'm not going anywhere.

And start asking questions, and start voicing your concerns in a professional way.

1. Find a manager or supervisor, step out of foot traffic and have a conversation.
- It's amazing how effective this move is. All the employees start looking over like, "wait, oh, he/she is one of these people, fukk!"

2. Establish a baseline by asking about normal procedure. (What is the normal greeting when you notice a customer browsing?)
3. Ask them why they deviated from the baseline. (Well, Debra was standing there for 10 minutes, while Emily walked in and was acknowledged right away, did Emily have an appointment?)

Usually by this time, logic will have the manager realizing where his associates went wrong and figuring out ways to alleviate your annoyance.

If dealing with a low-end establishment (corner store, gas station, McDonalds), sometimes it's best to just move on or take the service for what it is. But when dealing with an international brand like Target, or Saks, or Amazon, or Rimowa, or a high-end luxury brand/store, your voice has more power than you think. They are more customer focused than you know, so you have to stick up for yourself -- something a lot of black people shopping at these places are afraid to do. They are just happy to be in the room.

This is weird for me to read here because I worked at a different Saks in women's shoes for a couple of years and making sure I helped and greeted black customers was something I kept in mind. There were 2 other black men on my sales floor and we made sure to look out for each other in an environment that wasn't built for us and frankly, we killed it and existed to make the cacs we worked with upset with our success.

That being said, it's a sales job where your numbers are your livelihood and you do have to pre-judge customers and try to avoid those who aren't likely to spend money to optimize your opportunities. Looking at her she would've been approached by me with no hesitation, plus she looks alright and I always tried to make the baddies my customers. But, her looking for wedding shoes is generally a bad sign. Wedding shoe customers are demanding and time-consuming and they don't tend to buy at the moment, sometimes they're not looking to buy for months which in transactional sales is very uncertain and near worthless. If I saw her picking up what I recognized as wedding shoes I would've avoided her for someone who looked like a better bet if I could.

I won't pretend that when you walk into a store like this you aren't being judged by the employees and I've made bad assumptions that caused me to miss out on sales myself but that kind of thinking is forced on you by how you're compensated. People who blindly help anyone and give customer service are the people who don't make money and who lose their jobs. Their judgment is just possibly skewed in a manner that's more racist.

I expect some sort of hate here but I thought it'd be worth offering a perspective from someone who's been there.

edit: Just realized she was looking at Jimmy Choo. Jimmy Choos tend to be $400 - $700 and are on the lower end of what Saks sells. I might've approached a Jimmy Choo customer if it was slow but if I had someone looking at a 1k Chanel I'm going to approach them instead. No one wants a fukking Jimmy Choo customer, especially one looking for wedding shoes lmfao. Is what it is :yeshrug:

This is one of the more nuanced takes on the story (of course, very few daps) and I appreciate it. There are a number of factors going on here.

As someone who has worked at a Saks, who did you find more likely to stick up for themselves, black customers or white customers?

You think this Saks cares neccessarily? I tried to tell yall this is all by design. They want you to see stories like this so you can boycott and not come there. Too many black people shopping at certain places ruins the brand in many of these companies minds,or just in certain areas. Certain malls,in certain neighborhoods don't want their mall or neighborhood turning into a "black mall":mjpls:. You get harrassed on purpose so you can spread the news to all your black friends so they don't come there either.

Are you suggesting we say fukk that, and keep going anyway:patrice:? As long as yall continue to see it as strictly race based and not economics, you won't see the bigger picture.

Yes, they do care. They are a luxury retailer but not necessarily a bespoke luxury retailer, meaning they do not simply cater to exclusive clientele. They operate in one of the most competitive markets in the world. In short, Saks is a heavily regulated department store chain. Their parent company doesn't want or need to deal with a discrimination lawsuit or any type of bad press around the issue.

The mechanism they use to control brand exclusivity is not "keep the ******s out," it is, "do you truly have the disposable income and low self-esteem to want our trinkets" If you cannot afford it, you will likely feel uncomfortable being there in the first place.

They are ignorant.

Any time someone says bullshyt like “Why hasn’t a black person done so and so then?” Remind them of two young black women that opened up a hair shop and was forced fi close because they were discriminated by asian wholesalers.

If you were attempting to enter into a market heavily dominated by people who I have ties with I would discriminate against you as well.

A lot of stores are like that on 5th Avenue & on 57th street as well.

Not really. Although, there is power in you believing that.

Saks employees treat mfs like that when they know they can get away with it :mjlol:

Most of what this guy says sounds silly, but this I agree with. In general, people treat you how they believe they can. You can't be happy to be in the room and in awe of the scenery. Act like you belong. Whether on some Baltimore street corner or some bespoke investment firm. Act like you belong and play for keeps.

I don't care when this happens. When it's repeat offenders I'm actually kinda glad bc hopefully it reinforces to Black folks that these luxury brands/establishments have actual contempt for us and it is the height of foolishness to be giving them our money, even if you got money to burn.

mmmmmmm meh, that's on a store by store basis and how much of a pain in the ass the customer wants to be (contacting the general manager, corporate).

And they do most def cater to their more "exclusive clients" or "VIP" clients, that's the whole point of clienteling.

That's a good question, I would say when it came to complaints in general most would come from white customers, not just considering sheer number but percentage-wise and that comes from being more comfortable in the environment. Black customers complained less, but when black customers did complain it would often be because they felt slighted or discriminated against in some way, and, whether it really was the case that would often become ammunition in their complaint.

Another thing to keep in mind is that complaints about us ignoring customers or not greeting them was a very common thing. I didn't even think about this in my original post but we had to be told to stand near the "cheaper" brands like Jimmy Choo because we would never be there to immediately greet and help customers who were in that area. We typically gravitated towards Chanel/Valentino/Louboutin as they're more popular, higher-priced, and easier to sell. White people would complain in these instances but there's no implication for there to be a fuss about it like there is here. There's a reason why "Saks has bad customer service" is a general sentiment.

The more I think about it and bring myself back to those circumstances this is something that's being interpreted differently than it probably is because of history and people not knowing how these salespeople actually think. They're greedy sharks, especially on the NYC floor and a good chunk of them are making 6 figures and in 2019 when I last checked their top salesperson made 500k. Are they snobby? Yeah, but it's because they just didn't think this was worth their time.

I always thought that if these stores really wanted great customer service for everyone they would be paying solid salaries, not commission. Make their employees service people not sales. But then they'd lose their top people and idk how that'd work out.

Yup. During George Floyd, the protest, stores burning & athletes & entertainers protesting and walking out of games had the world shook.

That’s how you create an impact.
People look at rioting as a hyper nuisance. It is the same routine every time. No one is "shook"....
