How'd you figure that out by reading the gofundme campaign and YouTube video :dwillhuh:
I based it off of the initial post. Talking about we need help with website design, selection of items, and other trivialities that any business should automatically be ready for when in operation. We have a ton of African markets here in Houston, all run by blacks. They tend to do well here.

I guess in Houston the idea of a black owned grocery store is no big deal. A well run store will succeed, especially if they cater to the tastes and needs of the community they're in. This entire concept of begging for money, simply because you are unable to efficiently run your business is problematic in my opinion. Especially since these endeavours are for the benefit of private individuals.

But if i lived in the area, i would gladly patronize the market, provided they had the foodstuffs and items i needed. But simply donating to a private business just because? Nah.

@bdizzle I've done my best to support black business over the years but I have to be honest. Usually the prices are damn near double what you'd see other places. I have a spot near my crib that I try to support as much as possible but it's hard based on their prices. It's a soul food restaurant and I have to pay 13 dollars for 2 pieces of chicken and 2 sides. I make a decent living so I can afford this time to time but for a struggling black family, they wouldn't be able to do it. We can't ignore the fact that we are not paid as well as other races and how high our poverty level is. That's the real issue here and not just about calling people c00ns for not supporting the business. The question is do we have the funds to support these businesses.

That's exactly what group economics is. Keep our money with our own, then collectively take it and secure the community/city for ourselves. We always talk about cacs playing chess, so it's our turn to do the same.

If I get my money up enough I wanna be able to find a black candidate with a good track record, write a check, and put him in a high ranking political office. fukk around and make it a law that every school in the city have to have an RBG flag flying over it :lolbron:

this thread reminded me to get more involved locally. i've been slacking but will up my game.

:dwillhuh: I'm confused breh. Which YouTube video said that cause the one in the OP never mentioned any of those things. Plus they already have a really good website:

I'm a little hungover though :skip:

EDIT: I found what you were referring to. What I got from the post is what they're saying they're raising the money for (signs to help find the store, new equipment, purchasing new products, etc). I don't read that and think they're running a shytty business though, they're going through the birthing pains of any small business, not having access to enough capital.

Trust me breh I know. I've been trying to buy clothes from black designers all of the prices are fukking insane :damn: I don't know who some of these dudes are marketing to but it can't be to the average black household.

I do it because I can afford to, but like I said I'm not gonna knock anyone for being frugal with their bread. We def need some black people to sell shyt that's way more affordable man. I'm hoping to do my little part in making that happen though.

This spot is down the street from me, the issue is they are trying to serve the hood and people dont get the concept of the store so they just go to Wal Mart, they were thinking about relocating to one of the more gentrified parts of town as the area they are trying to serve is still in the early stages of gentrification.

Why do you always feel the need to troll threads like this?
You keep emphasizing I'm not black
I never claimed to be black
It's ridiculous I can't post with anything without it being trolling or getting called a cac. Look at the responses and its all :mindblown:

How much you get :lupe:
nothing too much but it helps as a fresh grad. Will be debt free in a month :blessed: Got the first half of a $4500 bonus.

out of school I took a contract position for exp and was making about $15 an hour... busted my ass and demanded a raise up to $20-25 an hour after six months. They were gonna gimme 20 an hour but because of the divisions pay structure head office was worried that others with seniority might find out i bypassed like 4 pay scales with the raise and outrage.

So they gave me a $2200 bonus now, and will give me another $2200 when the contract is done in six months instead. After that point I might head out west to head office though. :ehh:

that's an issue because the area they are in is the one that needs a place like this the most, but they can't afford to shop there. it's a crazy cycle. how do we fix it :snoop:

trade off as is with most things in life ... the food goes to the community and others can pick up much needed farming skills which could lead to future agricultural ventures. gotta crawl before we walk. recently an Sub Saharan African nation selected a white president to handle their affairs.

Liberty City Farmers' Market update: 2010-2011 season ended
Come see us again in Oct 2011 at a new location!
May, 2011 update: The Miami Dade County Department of Health has awarded us a Communities Putting Prevention to Work mini-grant to open a new farmers' market in Fall 2011 at Jesse Trice Center for Community Health. The Centers for Disease Control has made these funds available to combat the problem of food deserts and make healthy, fresh, locally grown vegetables more accessible to those in under served communities. We are excited to work with JTCHC at a new building, which will be ready in August of 2011, and is very close to a Metrorail station! Our partner, Wholesome Wave, is providing additional matching funds to double EBT/SNAP (food stamp) purchases at the market for even more people to buy fresh local vegetables! Hope to see ya'll in the Fall!

April, 2011:

The market began at the Belafonte Tacolcy Center at 6161 NW 9th Ave and after permitting issues could not be resolved, was moved to
Belafonte TACOLCY Center

Take the Urban Oasis Project Farmers' Market Challenge!

In Miami-Dade County, we have lost many farms to development and other pressures, so there just aren't enough farmers for local markets. To help with this problem, we are asking home gardeners to plant a few extra rows to sell at our market. If you have produce, please contact us to either come to market and sell it, or sell or donate to us for sale in a terribly under-served inner-city area. There are lots of nice folks there who deserve, good, clean, healthy food!
