I understand where OP is coming from. Most black people are broke. Our collective wealth is still dwarfed by every other race, including hispanics. Spending extravagant amounts of money to participate in this white holiday looks funny in the light.

You don't need to spend extravagant amounts of money. If you have kids or kids in your family then get them something that you can afford. Gifts are mostly for them. it very much should include punishments and incentives. no question about it. but its not about comparison to other races it's about how detrimental not being together is to our progress as a people. we do have powerful institutions they are just not being adequately utilized to help us combat these issues.
