@KidStranglehold

NC: Just a thought open to discussion. I’ve personally never felt insecure about my culture as an African American until I explored Black Tumblr. It’s very saddening to me to see the amount of young AA’s who honestly feel we lack a culture in comparison to that of indigenous Africans / other Afro-diasporic groups. I think one of the big reasons some of us feel this way though is merely because we exist in America, which is regarded as a “melting pot”. Think about it. In comparison to other Afro-diasporic groups (and obviously indigenous Africans too), we’ve never really had our own “space”. A lot of other Afro-diasporic groups (a lot, not all) originate from countries that are not nearly as racially diverse as America is and / or have much more of a significantly Black population. Some Caribbean countries especially have populations that are well over 50% Black. It makes sense that in countries with less diversity there is more room for larger group’s cultures to manifest. However, just because, historically speaking, our culture hasn’t had the same opportunity to manifest itself like that of other Afro-diasporic groups, certainly doesn’t mean we are without a culture! African American culture is as rich as any other, from rock and roll to jazz to Louisiana Voodoo and Hoodoo to soul food to rap and hip hop and pop and gospel (virtually all forms of popular music, TBH), to even little things you don’t think about like wearing big ass colorful hats to church, the African American ethnicity has established a very rich diasporic culture here in America. It’s our job to know it, own it, love it, and shove these facts in the face of those who say we don’t have a culture. If we don’t defend our culture, no one else will.

Sending positive vibes to all my Black sisters. :smile:

Fam, BW say this same stuff on Tumblr and Twitter and aren't anonymous.

Yall got to stop calling everyone "agents" and "cacs" for legitimate criticism.

That's all good & true, but as long as there's one "agent" out there, I'mma stay skeptical.

I wish people would stop blaming white supremacy for all these confessions. i admit it exist and affects us in many aspects but not being attracted to black men and being a 24 year old virgin has nothing to do with white supremacy. Thats a conscious decision.
It's usually a scapegoat. It seems to be a catch all phrase for people's personal problems and issues. The latitude is so wide for "white supremacy" in here, that folks think that if they're 5 minutes late to a bus...the system of "white supremacy" was in the works...instead of believing that they should have just arrived 5 minutes earlier. :manny:

That ain't fair, breh, not in the slightest. I was a book worm since 2. I still had the hood vernacular and speech patterns, but as I grew older,
it got even more complex. Black people like this get judged quite a bit, though usually in the hood.

I got it bad if I did anything "out of character" like join the chess club, geek out and skateboard, etc. Black women get that too. Be easy, breh.

:salute:I had to find that out myself. In the hood, the general mindset is fukked up. You get out...shyt opens up. In the hood I was a lame. Outside of it, an interesting person.

:ohhh:shocking.

I swear guys like you only exists on the interwebs :wow:
