A couple months ago my mom - a licensed clinical therapist with a Master's from one of the top universities in the country - interviewed for a position as a Clinical Director. The headhunter who found her was very excited to set up the interview. The company was excited to interview her based on her credentials, the salary she was quoted by the HH was $125k; it was perfect.
The interview went well......until it was time to talk money. When she mentioned the $125k, the (white) dude interviewing her balked and I guess said something to the effect of
"don't you think that's a little too ambitious?" Now she's caught off guard because that was the salary THEY were offering. When she tells him this he gets to scratching his head and saying there must've been an error or a miscommunication of some kind because
that position suddenly only paid $85k. Says he's gonna speak to the HH and figure out what went wrong.
6 weeks later that position is still open and the salary offered is still clearly listed at 125. About a week ago another person - this time a breh - got back to her trying to see if she was still interested. She told him what went down and he said he'd look into it. He comes back and says he feels she'd be a great fit, but the MAX he could get her was 100k "and that's pushing it". She declined.
Setting aside the fact that the white MF
really tried to low-ball her.....even with the second offer, WTF happened to that additional $25k?
Took one look at her OVERQUALIFIED-while-BLACK ass and decided asking for the salary they offered was "too ambitious".
