"Yet a poll by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee leading up to the elections found that 67 percent of Obama’s base didn’t even know that an election was being held."

The democratic party is a JOKE for this reason.

Working families >>>
Green >>>
World Socialist >>>

If you are a democrat you should be voting for these guys instead. Obama is the only demoncrat worth a damn at the national (3 branches) level.

Black people don't have any real political power and haven't anytime recently.

One party is explicitly antagonistic towards the black populace and the other has no real impetus to address black issues because the other party's 'cism is so strong that few black voters will vote for the other party regardless.

This is intentional. The two party system is the ideal mechanism through which the ultra powerful keep the gen pop powerless and antagonistic towards each other.

the problem with "nationalism" is that it doesnt address internal issues that black people have which is low education levels and low levels of capitalism, any country with those two problems will end up in the lower economic scale and in third world country status

I personally think these problems are caused by being part of the dominant society and under their thumb. I think with the level education that black Americans have vis a vis the rest of the world will NOT allow them to be a third world status nation. Previous history of owning 130 banks in the worst time of race relations is proof

I'm in the party of economic power equals political power. Sadly, there's not really anything Black America can do unless the wealthiest one percent of our community starts flexing their economic muscle and start building infrastructure. That in itself, ironically, is a dream, or so it seems. Whenever we do obtain economic power, we'll be able to shot-call. We may not even be alive to see that come into fruition, however, the plans need to be put into motion and the ground-work needs to be started.

Most most of our wealth is controlled by other groups. We need to focus on recovering that as well as building low-level economic infrastructure, as well as diversification of that infrastructure(too many hair salons and barber shops) that will put into motion the declaration of economic independence of our community. In order for everything to really take off, we need successful black corporations that can become major players in a few of the most profitable sectors.

This is what we need....

A service sector that covers everything.
Control of our entertainment, hair care industries.
World power players in STEM that will hire our best and brightest.

Then, we can have discourse whether or not we should stay or leave.

As for the political issue, IMHO, we'll never obtain the power necessary to live without persecution because of our sheer lack of numbers, even if we do somehow, obtain economic independence. If whites/Jews don't try to derail us, then the racist "Latino isn't a race, but our entire culture is rooted in race annihilation/discrimination/segregation" Latin Americans in the US will try.

It needs the will so it can no longer be a dream the same efforts and unanimity in our voices when it comes to these police murders should be directed with a campaign to split off and make a compelling case for separation. I have always said that blacks in America have every stat in terms of educational attainment, economic standing, unfair judicial system among other things to fall under the category of persecuted people according to the UN convention. Why not aim for that? Like the article we are 12% of the population and will remain a constant 12% in terms of percentage of the toal population. This society blames every ill on us so it should in both their and our best interest to separate but they know if that happened we will actually thrive at a higher level than them
ok fine. where's your protection going to come from? we're not norway. we have to have an army. and sorry a baby army isnt going to fight off other countries. What would have to happen for this to work is we would need to get the very same thing the jews got. Money(constantly invested by america), investment in high level armed forces(america again). that would have to be apart of a reparations/separations package.

So we could live on our own. whether that be here in the states or even if we chose to "go back to africa" .

The first thing is separation then we will figure out how to build an army with years of separation. I am on the "going back to africa" (I just moved to Kenya a week ago) but the continent needs to get its shyt straight first then allow mass migration. But for the moment from this year of 2015 we should concentrate on that separation whether it's within the geography of the US. All black people concentrated in certain states because we all know when black people move in, it's white flight. I REFUSE TO LIVE UNDER A WHITE DOMINATED SOCIETY (IT HAD BECOME BAD FOR MY HEALTH) that is for the birds where every authority figure is white.

I congratulate you on your repatriation back to the motherland. As you well know, not everyone (Africans in the western hemisphere) agrees with the "Back to Africa" position.

I think a combination of repatriation and globalization would be the best solution. We can still have our economic independence as well as having options as to where we can live. Some will choose to remain in the western hemisphere and some will repatriate.

Black political power has gone soft because blacks are already in the bag for one party and therefore there is no need to compete over the black vote. Blacks make the mistake of thinking one party is your friend. The reality is in politics, there are no such things as friends... there are competing interests. If you're already in the bag, your party won't feel the need to give you anything more and the opposing party won't do any thing to woo you because they feel it would be a waste of effort.

if black people became a nation it would definitely be third world status, that isnt an opinion, thats a fact

im not saying it would stay that way, but people shouldnt delude themselves that its all gravy, a black nation would start at the bottom and wouldnt be much different than any other third world country

my main doubts about the proposition is about education levels, for example, a couple of weeks in a thread about STEM degrees (and also something i see in real life), there were quite a few posters who didnt understand the importance of having STEM PhD's, now step back for a minute and imagine a country with very few per capita PhDs, being run by people that dont think having STEM PhD's are important, you can bet your bottom dollar that it will be a broke ass country

imo until we deal with the fact that there is an anti academic mentality infesting the black community, i dont think black people are going anywhere, nationalism or no, group economics or no, racism or no

im not being negative, im optimistic, i think its changing slowly, but im just saying

No your perspective like everybody else's hypothesizing about being a third world country is OPINION. Have you been to a third wold country? I have lived in one for a couple of years. The mentality of people there including the leadership is different than that of what would be a Black nation? Despite all of the problems that you find within African-American communities, they are more fixable and the detrimental mentality is more fixable than people who live in a third world nation. I speak from experience. We can argue about why the mentality of African 3rd world countries are the way they are and that is the legacy of colonialism and these nations are 50 years old. Although African-Americans have not been fully treated and included as first-class citizens in a democracy for 400 years, they know how it works even being on the outside looking in (i.e MLK saw that, wanted black people to be part of it) and seeing how it benefits white people and if they can implement that type of governance to benefit them then it is the ideal situation.

As far as anti-intellectual or anti-education sentiments within African-American communities, if you want to argue that is rampant then it is the a recent phenomenon. Because back in the day, the blackest thing you could do was getting an education. It is not an irony that when African-American communities or the US just became recently integrated during the last 50-60 years, that this emphasis on education becomes less and less.

yeah ive been to mexico, is that third world enough? but im not sure what it is you are saying, what exactly is the piece of information that im missing about a third world country that you wish to impart to me?

why is it that you think the issues in the black american community are more fixable than in a third world country, i would disagree that they are different, i think they are pretty much the same, you do realize that a black american country has already been tried, its called liberia

Mexico is not third world enough Mexico is damn near an emerging country (when you cut out drug cartel problems) been and lived is different you get a feel of the culture and mentality even more if you lived there. Third world like Burundi.

When you go to a Sub-Saharan Africa 3rd world country, there is an :

(1) ethnic differences issue - the countries in sub-Saharan Africa are essentially artificial and their borders were established by Europeans. So you have ethnic groups who did not mingle/interact with each other now having to live under the same flag post-colonialism. That's why one of the reasons Liberia failed was the tension of Americans "outsiders" to the local Liberian population. In America's black population , there is no ethnicity divide sure you have people in the States whose parents come from the Carribbean or Africa but they do not make up a significant amount of the 42 million Black Americans. It is safe to say that an overwhelming majority of black people in America have the same heritage, history and cultural norms. Which is different from Africa, that's why in Africa you have this ethnicity and tribalism mentality that cause a lot of problems in the development of the country and unfortunately lead to genocide and mass murders.

(2) Third world African countries are young (most of them gained their independence in the 1960s) - so democracy for them is a new process while in the United States Black people have been around democracy since its inception in north America. Although, they have been excluded from participating in it, they know what it looks like due to exposure while living in a country that has had democracy for a long time although it only served white people. You can duplicate that as Black Americans in your own nation state.

(3) Black Americans have been educated ever since they were no longer slaves and have taken part in inventions that have revolutionized and contributed to American society and the world for a LONG time. Inventions that can be linked to today's technology. You have the establishment of many black universities and institutions of higher learning. Go to any third world country, you won't find the level of sophistication of institutions like you have at Howard or Morehouse Spellman etc... That's why when Africans get a chance they either go to Europe or the US to study because they know a diploma from their country of origin is worthless globally.

I have highlighted 3 points that if Black America were a country, they would be well above and beyond a third world nation on this earth. That's why Black America's problems are easier to solve then the problems you find in third world countries hence the argument to become its own nation state so it can thrive on its own why the reluctance to separate? If we are using logic, the problems are bad when integrated why not try to solve these problems by separation.

well just for the record, this is completel theoritical, there is no way a black american nation would ever happen for many different reasons

but what you said is a good case for saying that a black american nation would be better off than a typical african nation, but a black american nation would be equivalent to mexico and other "emerging" countries, it wouldnt be all the way at the bottom but it wouldnt be at the top, and a black american nation would be facing pretty much the same problems as mexico or brazil typ countries

my point is is that there are 2 basic metrics that determine wealth of a nation , those are levels of education and levels of capitalism, other factors come into play of course ut those are the most important factors

places like howard and spelman are good steps but overall black americans are way behind in education even (compared to the us and europe), so a black american nation would also be way behind

where my opinion goes to left field, compared to some people, is that people assume if you remove the white presence those things like education would improve, i dont think it will, IMO to improve black education there are cultural shifts that black people have to make irrespective of white people, ie irrespective of black nationhood, if we dont make these shifts we will be at the bottom regardless
