But those top 3 or 4 Black hitmakers are not making what is deemed soulful music. Tyrese has probably made the most soulful song this year, I haven't heard it on a white station yet. In terms of Jill Scott, is she headlining a tour, or is she part of a package? Janet Jackson can't sell out arenas and they are changing dates for her tour. Black radio plays Jill Scott around here. Black artists have to go more pop in order to cross over and white artists have to sound more soulful to cross over, problem is, Black soul singers don't get played on white stations, unless its the oldies station. They play the fukk out of Al Green and Marvin Gaye.

last tour Jill took out Anthony Hamilton. ARENA tour
This year, she been taking old school acts. ARENA tour

Point is, its a demand for her with a lack of mainstream support.

I know I'm a cac and my opinion prob doesn't count for much but you guys seriously over analyze shyt way too much lol and low key are more racist then the white people you hate on.

So OP you could play a great piece of music that you love but if you find out a cac was responsible for it you couldn't fukk with it? You missing out man just saying grow some balls and have your own opinion instead of trying to have the opinion that aligns with what you feel you have to like because your black.

Btw didn't read OP or any other posts just was browsing doing my cac thing and saw the thread title and smh.

fukk Adele though most overrated bytch ever tho but if I was OP I would love her just cuz she's white.

True, but they don't appreciate her and prop her up to the levels they do Adele. But the truth is, Adele is really a fat girl version of Celine Dion.

You're being near sighted.

We don't own/control any of these mainstream outlets.

When a black "soul" artist is making great music they're not perceived with the same desire from middle America, the Erykah Badus, the Anthony Hamilton's, Soulchilds, etc etc.

To sit here and say we're simply not trying and that we're hurling empty complaints is not only condescending, but quite ridiculous.

Again, I bear no grudge to Adele but there are things aside from her music that make her "marketable" to middle America.

To be fair, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, and Musiq Soulchild aren't going to be perceived the same way because middle America was never their market. Middle America is the market that acts like R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Brandy were reaching back when Erykah and Anthony were getting support. It's not the same now because the people who came up on their music are now adults. It's not the type of music that connects with the youth on the scale that Chris Brown, Trey Songz, and Beyonce and Rihanna do. Point is the music that Erykah, D'angelo, Anthony Hamilton, Musiq Soulchild, and Jill Scott made then and still make hasn't been the dominant sound in R&B in quite some time. That's why people were labeling what they were doing as Neo-Soul because it was a throwback to an earlier sound distinct from the R&B that dominated at the time.

I must agree. Great post.

Shame how cookie cutter people like their music to be.

all these black coli militant losers crying cuz of music shyt is corny

every single album by a black white brown yellow artist goes gold/platinum because white people buy it what else is knew

you really think that successful black artists are only succesful because black people buy their music? lol fukkouttahere.

its not mathematically possible to be successful in music with only black people buying music. you're only 5% of the entire population you simp losers. its not racism, plants, etc. its math.

go do more education.
...the irony of this post...

Why throw Beyonce under the bus? That's counterproductive. You're talking about how Black female singers out there with big voices who are ignored, but you just threw Beyonce under the bus. The same way that the Twitter rant threw Beyonce under the bus.

Tyrese and Adele aren't even aiming for the same base. Tyrese even when he was making music that was more in tune with the Usher's and Ginuwine's never was as big as them and they were targeting some of the same markets. People are comparing apples and oranges just to justify why one singer isn't as successful as the other.

Look? James Fauntleroy is one of the most successful songwriters in the industry. He co-wrote on three of the biggest albums of 2013. He's a part of Cocaine 80's and also works closely with Timbaland (most of the Pop records he's produced since 2010, Fauntleroy wrote or co-wrote). I'm not even sure if he even wants to be a recording artist.

Adele is not the standard. She's one successful artist out of a sea of other successful artists who fit the standard. That's why we won't be seeing an influx of artists who are heavier being as successful as Adele.

spare me the history lesson on James Faunteroy. I've known abt dude since 07. And while it's debatable to what LEVEL he wants to be a recording artist, he has released solo EP's for sale digitally. It's not all free Cocaine 80's EPs. But the stuff he's released is not the same as his mainstream work b/c he likely knows he would make more money giving his good songs away. Guy has an great voice tho.

And yeah Beyonce caught a stray....NOT because she's Black. But because she's got a big voice, can do any type of project she wants, and simply chooses to make forgettable pop music....on top of being Black. I'd be fine with Beyonce if she did a mixture of R&B/soul stuff to go along with her Pop, but her catalog is very forgettable given her immense vocal talent. She has access to the top writers/producers in the world, yet REFUSES to take any creative chances. And that's the sad part.

This whole thing is crazy. Black artists have to dumb down their music, put autotune on their voice, limit their talent, can't use chords anymore b/c we've conditioned young Blacks to think that true singing/real instruments isn't cool anymore......then a white person comes along, does the same thing we WERE doing and it sells. Not only does it sell, but Black ppl love it.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I have no problem with Adele. This is really the fault of Black/urban music radio stations and on a larger level, BET.
